Hi Kim,I think it's the yahoo format that's awful. Very unclear. I am new here too but this is the beginner's file:http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/miralax/files/Beginner%27s%20File/The file there has some suggestions on alternatives that have worked for others.Good luck,SimonaTo: miralax Sent: Saturday, January 10, 2009 4:26:11 PMSubject: help with forum

My name is Kim. My daughter started having holding issues at age 22

months and I called my pedi desperate for help as I watched her

squeeze her little cheeks in as hard as she could for several days.

The only thing I could relate it to was the 'corn on the cob' she

ate a few days prior.... She had a painful poop after her mommy

(me) had to give her a suppository. . and I think it was all downhill

from there...

Pedi says "we'll put her on Miralax, 1/4-1/2 capful a day and then

you as the mom will figure out after awhile what dose will work for

her. Some moms put them on every other day".. blah blah.. it did

work (we had tried flax oil and fiber with no results, based on

online research (not this group of course)) He told me it would

take about a month to work. Well, here we are, 7 months later and if

I forget to give her her Miralax in the AM, we may have up to a 3-

day holding spree.

I can't stand watching her hold the poopie in. She is 2.5 years old

now, has a new sister, and I know has internal issues with that. I

try talking to her about the potty. she tells me "I have to poopie!"

right before she holds in with all her might. A suppos didn't even

work the other day.

I am having a HARD TIME with this forum. It seems like it is a

running conversation of such different topics.... there aren't sub

groups that I can find info? How do I get to a list of side effects?

How do I get to a list of alternatives to Miralax for holding

issues??

I am concerned because she is not the best eater lately, and has

dark circles under her eyes. As her mommy I just know something is

wrong but I can't figure it out. I can't stand the eyes.

Please someone help me figure out how to benefit the most from this

forum. I am used to a 'message board' like forum.. where there are

several sub groups.... sorry if that doesn't make sense, I just

really would like better research. Alternatives mostly... I don't

know why she is holding so badly....

Hi, welcome!! It sounds as though she is holding because of the fear

of pain from the hard stools. After the suppository was the stool hard

(typically suppositories dont soften stools as where enemas do)?

Sounds as though she needs more or something new to make the stools

softer(if it was hard). We have best of luck with No tap water

(chlorine causes many intestinal issues), we use spring water, aloe

vera juice is our favorite, vitamin C loosens, and magnesium. These

seem to be what we have stuck with the best. I recommend only trying

1 thing at a time for a few days each. Also consider the foods she is

eating that could be constipating. examples: bananas, anything with

rice, dairies-cheese, milk etc. Some fibers can cause bulking and

make it more difficult to pass if it is motility issues going on. So

stay away from the bulkers just incase. We also use epsom salt baths

(magnesium sulfate). Some feel this actually may absorb and help

loosen stools. I find at the very least it is calming for my child

especially when there is bloating etc. Really incourage the water!

thank you all for your replies!! I look forward to reading through

the files. Her stool was not too hard when she passed it after a

suppos, but I would say it was on of the last 'formed' stools I have

seen in awhile. The miralax turns it to mush! I will try the diet

modifications, but she is super picky. Loves orange, apple and grape

juice.. I water it down 1/2 and 1/2 and hope it's OK I am giving her

as much as she'll drink....
