The one thing that jumps out at me is it appears that the lung transplant is the end stage of this disease? If so, what happens when someone isnt able to be put on a list due to age and condition? It sounds like for some, they are having just as hard of a time as my mom with the bleeding. My mom has been in the hospital since last friday 3/30/07 after having a broc scope done. The have had her on a total of 5 anitbatics. The dr said she had 3 different bactreria's growing in her lungs and then they said she has pnemnia and then they said she only had 2 bacteria's growing. From what I'm reading, it sounds like skipping the broc scope and going on antibatics is the best way to go. I know they did this on my mom to see where her bleeding was coming from. That's when they found the large pocket in her right lung. I have to say, at this point, it doesnt look good for my mom. I get the fact that positive thinking has to be maintained, but at the same time, my sister and I have to take care of business etc. I just want to to know straight out without all the smoke and mirrors if this is the end/final stage so I know what we need to do for our mom. Guest guest Posted February 11, 2008 Report Share Posted February 11, 2008 Do you have time to evaluate after all the tests – it’s just that lung transplant is listed as a CAUSE of bronch...! But maybe not always, I don’t know. It’s pretty drastic and major surgery to undergo, and if you decide, our prayers are with you for good acceptance of the transplant, and good recovery...If you have a chance, do try and take time out to think everything over, Joy and all Actually I think tx isnt such a bad idea. TX isnt something that one of us can go into the dr's order and ask to have..such as requesting a new abx It's very very very controlled. If her doctor has recommended TX there's a good reason for it.. Eval and consult is the first step to TX and very very involved..I have also been referred for TX and many of my alpha1 sibs have had TX..most have had wonderful results..and a few didn't make it.. Here's a link for you..this should help y'all to understand the TX process.. TX, as I'm sure many of you are aware isnt something you can request..and there's many who have died waiting.. Guest guest Posted February 11, 2008 Report Share Posted February 11, 2008 Thanks, Sandie, I appreciate, as I’m sure others do, your input re transplant – the one thing that is common to this blinking disease is that it IS so variable!As for donating organs – I wouldn’t inflict my lungs on anyone!, and I don’t think my other organs are too good either after 55 yrs of infx and medications... Maybe next time around, if I have the chance... Oh Joy ! when we talk organ donation there's more to it than just our lungs..you'd be surprised what you have to offer to another..really Skin..bone..cornia..and a host of other things..just because we have our own deformaties and malfunctions ..trust me..there's something you have that would most definitely help another live a better quality of life..
