GI issues or sick?

Hi all, My mostly non-verbal ASD child has had a bought of different GI problems the last week.

I tend to think she is sick, but am not sure. Any thoughts on what I can give her to help ease the

tummy aches?

She has had some severe constipation due to some stool blockage and we finally got that moving

with an enema ( which we rarely have to do if at all). But the bad part is that she had tub accidents

4 nights in a row ! ( This never happens either). Her tummy was bloated too. Well, yesterday she

had one episode of horrible diarrhea. I mean it was a lot. She's been a bit pale too.

I'm wondering what's going on ??

Thanks for letting me vent and ask for help on this !

Hi Kathy, my son is non verbal also!! Yes to both, Im guessing since you suspect she may be ill that she is and also this is 100% connected with the gi issues! The gi is over 80% of the immune systom the 2 go together! Im glad she cleaned out, and it sounds possibly this is what she is doing, getting rid of the virus. 2nd thought, she was blocked, this caused infection etc in the gi and then feels ill from and then the enema getting it all out. Just keep tabs on fevers etc. Actually a fever is the body killing viral/infection issues so not always a bad thing!! Virus's ALWAYS causes the backups for our son!! 4 days of diareha be cautious on making sure she gets plenty of fluids. If she is getting worse and not showing signs of improvements consider taking to doctor. I know it can take my son 2-3 days of 1 enema cleaning out and also the pale appearance. But dont

let this go to long if getting worse! Keep us updated!! When this happens with my son I be sure and give him OLE this stuff is great for viral etc issues and even fevers! Jennie<><

Kathy,

the gas these children produce is UNBELIEVABLE.................you need to find a way to prompt her to "pass the gas"...........from what you're describing, it really sounds like it could be gas. Once you've lived with a decade of constipation, diarhhea seems like nothing and at least it's cleaning itself out................Kirkman's probiotic is the ONLY thing, that's ever helped with this issue for us................

Thanks Jennie, I think she had a touch of a virus. She also had an eye infection and her period just prior.

She did have a blockage. I'm wondering if the enema just unblocked what needed to come out.

I gave her one capsule of activated charcoal today and she is perky and looks much better in the face.

Her eye's look better and she is more with it. Thanks for your help. How to you get that nasty OLE into

your son !

p.s she has had no fever.

Kathy,

didn't you introduce kirkmans probiotics too? Yeah, I'm wondering if this is part of the problem. I even cut it in half.

Im so glad she is feeling better!! As far as the OLE, my son is on pureeds, each meal has also pedia sure mixed in it and Im sure this is what masks the OLE for him(pedia sure), I open the capsule and blend write in his food. Im sure this can be done with puddings etc. Seems something sweet works best for masking. I have heard of the charcoals but never really checked on it! Would you mind telling me what this is used for? Jennie<><

I have the liquid OLE and it's awful. My DH takes it when he gets a fever blister.

I'll have to get some capsules. A. Charcoal is sort of like an enzyme but much more

powerful. Very safe. It absorbs the toxins and the body eliminates. Good for food infractions

and intolerances. Green stools, etc. Be careful though, because it can constipate !!
