Guest guest
HI, I've been posting on these boards and reading for quite a while. I have a few question: 1. How long had/has your child been on Miralax? 2. When did the constipation begin? 3. Before you started all these remedies instead of MIralax, was your child tested for GI issues, ex. rectal biopsy, colonoscopy, endoscopy? 4. Does your child ever have periods of pooping on potty normally every day and then go backwards for no reason? 5. If you are seeing GI doc, what does he think? Thanks,
Guest guest
18 Month Old with life threatening allergies to peanuts & eggs. No other health related issues. 1. She was on it for a month. I gave her 1/4 cap full daily instead of one cap as suggested. 2. Approx. 15 months. She used the bathroom every day but was having severe tummy cramping at night. Her GP said she was "fine." I didn't believe it, took her to the GI and she was entirely "backed up". 3. Yes, I had her tested before beginning any meds. 4. We are just beginning potty training. She turned 2 in December. 5. My daughters GI, a family GI, my GP, her pediatrician and two other GI doctors I spoke with over the phone all said Miralax was safe. One pediatrician in her practice said if the label says not safe for children under 17 then I would think it is not safe. I LOVE HIM. I tried to help my daughter without and she continued to be in pain. She also showed several symptoms/side effects that others on this site have described. My responses are in your questions field:~ Tracie- HI,I've been posting on these boards and reading for quite a while. I have a few question:1. Guest guest
1. we took two 1/2 teaspoon doses a year ago when she was 3. and then had 4 - 6 weeks of side effects - was horrific. 2. constipated more or less since birth - but not nearly as bad as other kids on this board. was manageable until overexposure to antibiotics when she started preschool. 3. not tested. 4. yes, but since being on regimen she is on now and FINALLY using potty every day, hasn't had backward movement in about a month. (KNOCKING ON WOOD AS I TYPE!)5. GI thought daughter's problems attributable to antibiotic overexposure - thought her gut dehydrated and needed to be repopulated with good bacteria. thought she would start using potty when she forgot about the painful poops. also put us on very strict diet that still adhere to and likely will for a very long time to come. when we deviate we have problems. she is proponent of probiotics as well. but also had us on lactulose (small doses) for about 6 months. Guest guest
May I suggest that you move this to a survey instead. It's on the menubar on your left -- polls. Guest guest
If you do a poll, can you add the question " Did you use fertility drug(s) within 2 years of conceiving your child who has constipation? " With a Yes or No option. Thank you. ---- mommtlc wrote: May I suggest that you move this to a survey instead. It's on the menubar on your left -- polls. Thanks, My child was never continent of stool. He seemed to do great at potty training for a few weeks then it devolved into power struggles and it was all downhill from there. We did miralax off and on for a couple of years. I never wanted to do it but since it was all the traditional medical community had to offer I felt I had no other choice. The GI geniuses here at the local Children's Hospital chalk it all up to psychological origins. We've since discovered through the school system that our child has sensory integration disorder, of which enteroception, the ability to sense the need to eliminate can be an issue. I knew that my son was not doing this to acheive revenge- he has paid too dearly for this problem. Had I understood what was going on earlier I could have been more matter of fact about the soiling and the need for pull ups. I blame the overwhelming number of immunizations given to him from 0 to 2yo. As a registered nurse I thought I was doing the right thing making sure he got all his immunizations on time, he never missed even a flu shot. I thought he needed the flu shot to help ward off some of the many ear infections he kept getting. Now I believe all those immunizations caused immune problems, which caused gut problems, which caused neurological problems. Presently we see a homeopathic/ DAN doctor. My son is OK taking nystatin for yeast, probiotics that keep his stool soft enough for him to eliminate it, and bunches of other supplements, mostly vitamins and minerals. We also see an occupational therapist once a week and he receives OT in the school. He has mild to moderate behavior problems. His social skills are weak, he can't seem to keep his hands to himself, he has little impulse control, sometimes he does not manage his anger well or tries to use anger to get his way (unfortunately I have modeled that for him as my parents did for me. Only with me it worked.) Probiotics have been a tremendous benefit. I use Nature's Way Optima becuase it has so many strains in it. I also take probiotics for my self. My husband and I also went through Positive Child Interaction Therapy- that has also been a tremendous help. We were definitely struggling as parents and partners in parenting. We still don't agree 100% but what set of parents does.

Guest guest
1. How long had/has your child been on Miralax? Probably about 4 years, since she was 2. 2. When did the constipation begin? About age 1. 3. Before you started all these remedies instead of MIralax, was your child tested for GI issues, ex. rectal biopsy, colonoscopy, endoscopy? Yes. Every test under the sun. Even a 24 hour reflux monitoring. Multiple x-rays as well. 4. Does your child ever have periods of pooping on potty normally every day and then go backwards for no reason? No, still not potty trained. She has Down syndrome and Autism, so part of her trouble may be low tone. 5. If you are seeing GI doc, what does he think? Our GI, who we've seen for years, has not given opinion yet. We went back to see her, now we deal with a PA instead of doc. This person looked at us as if we were insane to think Miralax did not work and we must be lying. Everyone I speak to about it, rolls their eyes and probably thinks I dig up stories off some " weird " internet site. Its very disturbing. > > HI, > > I've been posting on these boards and reading for quite a while. I > have a few question: > > 1. How long had/has your child been on Miralax? > > 2.
