Dear Members,

There is still time to book on this Conference which is being held from August

25th-29th 2009 at Lampeter University in South Wales.

For those of us who have long wanted to explore our heritage and philosophy this

is an opportunity not to be missed.

The Wednesday programme explores the roots of the Western Tradition with

renowned experts in their field.

Workshops and lectures will cover areas such as Herbs and Hippocrates, Botanical

Latin and Ancient Egyptian Herbalism. The English tradition is also explored in

a workshop called Galenic Temperaments in the Writings of Culpepper.

Thursday opens with a discussion of Paracelsus and delegates then have an

opportunity to take a guided tour of the National Botanic Garden of Wales,

including its Apothecaries Garden and Gallery. To round the day off there is an

evening discussion with a noted expert on the Physcians of Myddfai - Dr. Morfydd

Owen who will be discussing Herbalism in Medieval Wales.

Now armed with such a wealth of background to our own tradition Friday is day

that allows us to compare Western Herbal Medicine alongside TCM and Ayurveda in

a panel discussion of Comparative Herbalism. The day rounds off with something

we herbalists are all very good at - a Twmpath, the Welsh for a good old knees

up!

For those herbalists who practice in Wales and seldom get chance to meet up with

one another, Lampeter are kindly hosting a Welsh Regional Group Meeting on the

Saturday. This will run alongside a public open day of exhibitions,

presentations and workshops.

Throughout the week the Lampeter University Library will be having an exhibition

of their ancient herbals which date back to the fifteenth century. As these

herbals are not generally on public display this is a rare opportunity for us to

see them.

Lampeter is a beautiful gem of a market town hidden away in the Welsh

countryside - so it's a great place to bring the family.

Please note this conference has been organised and is being run by Lampeter

University so the booking form and fee should be sent to them and not to the

NIMH office. Details are all on the booking form which is available as a

download on the NIMH website.

My form's already in! Look forward to seeing some of you there.

JANE
