Guest guest
Hello everyone; There is one question at the bottom of this letter to everyone on the list. Since joining the list I've been fortunate to make the aquaintence of a few people going through this same situation my husband and I are going through (leaving the mold house behind). Cherry Haughton and I have spoken quite a bit about the mold problems beginning even before homes are nailed together. and Cherry brought this to my attention and I know most of you have witnessed this and might not have realized the beginning of a disaster right before your eyes until it happened to you; Building materials are laying out for weeks, even months on the building sites. being rained and snowed on then nailed together and tightly sealed into the walls of homes. In the past few weeks my husband and I have witnessed homes in process, with nothing protecting the untreated wood framing or plywood roof sheeting without shingle, being exposed to the severe moisture at times. Is there a building code against this in your township or city (no this is not the question mentioned above)? There is NOT likely such a code for sate or local authorities to uphold, but there should be! Maybe its time we get together with our local officials for a friendly visit and leave them some information about mold and the type of materials it thrives on and the dangers molds pose to human health. Maybe with a boost from some of us living this nightmare we can help make such codes. When we ( and I) finally get out from under this nightmare and build our home, there will be one HUGE CREW putting the roof and exterior walls up over a two day period of DRY weather, to enable completion before moisture can take its toll. Also, all building materials will come from a company that stores the wood INDOORS and I will check this out with the wood manufacturer also. It does not take a rocket scientist to figure out how to avoid building a mold motel such as the one built for the previous owners of the house we now have to deal with. Question: What precaution would you take when building a home today, given your knowledge of the problems created by moisture/mold indoors? Please write me in private or to the list mail and I will post all of the answers together after answers have stopped so this can be easily accessed and utilized by someone in the future.
