Guest guest
>It sounds like a Cuculoides midge. They really hurt when they bite and are very small, you don't hear them and often do not know they are even in your house.< I've never heard of this kind of midge, although when I lived in rural CT there were biting midges (and gnats) to which my mother was extremely allergic. I was thinking it might be a spider bite, as it seems to have particularly bad venom. It doesn't hurt, but the itching is maddening. The worst bite has also been spreading out to half the size of a dollar bill and is red and swollen. The other two bites seem to be merging. They are still worsening after three days. Perhaps I am having an allergic reaction. >I recently had a friend get bit and he used Emu Oil at my suggestion, he said it helped a lot. Still had the bites the next day but much improved.< I've got some other thing going on--I think it's a virus--so going out of the house to buy something isn't workable. I've been trying a variety of things I have here, vitamin E oil, DMSO, and lavender oil. All of which usually help, but aren't doing much at the moment. >B1 taken for a week, 100 mg a day, will reduce the CO2 that attracts them.< I have B1. I'll start taking it, and will be taking brewers yeast as well, which has been protective in the past. This is the third time I've been bitten by the same thing, whatever it is, (there are three bites this time instead of just one). When it bit me on my little finger a couple of weeks ago, the finger swelled up and turned dark red all the way down to my wrist. There was also the same maddening itching. >They are out mostly at dusk and dawn. Cause severe skin allergies in horses. Also known as onchoceriasis.< This is happening inside my house, at night while I'm sleeping. I haven't been outside for a week, due to the virus. I'm not sure how big the midges get, so perhaps it's getting in around the screens. They don't fit very well. Thanks for the B1 info. That's something I can do right now. Guest guest
This sounds more like spider bites. We used to get this sort of bite, multiple bites, all in a line. We found that they crawl up and down the wall and from there into your bed. Move your bed away from the wall, so that nothing is touching the wall, not the headboard, or a pillow, etc. Before going to sleep, throw the sheets back and brush off the top and bottom sheet with your hand and arm to brush any spiders off. Aslo do this on and under your pillow. What was most effective was getting gutters on the house, which reduced the dampness around the house foundation. Then, when we got air-conditioning, we don't open the windows much so the spider population really decreased. Try mixing a bit of anti-histamine, if you have any, with a bit of DMSO and applying it over the bites. Adolph's meat tenderizer, or papayin or bromelain might work too. For mosquito bites it often works to run hot water over the bite. Make it as hot as you can stand until it stops itching. (Do I have to mention not to make it hot enough to actually burn your skin? I hope not.) Good Luck, Dan > This is the third time I've been bitten by the same thing, whatever it is, (there are three bites this time instead of just one).
