Guest guest
I am reposting this inquiry as I did not get any responses. Perhaps it got lost in the shuffle? Perhaps no one has any answers? Giving it one more try: I suggested to a friend with arthritis in her hands to try using some DMSO (topically). She reported back to me that her hands felt much better, but she thought the DMSO " ate " her stomach. She said she was unable to eat anything for a couple of days. She did say that she had used a lot of ibuprofen int he past and it had irritated her stomach, so she had to stop using the ibuprofen. Anybody heard of a stomach reaction to topically applied DMSO? If so, is there a way to avoid that reaction. I would love to have some information to give her. thanks mara
Guest guest
Not in my experience. I'd write it off as coincidence. In my experience when one begins a fast, intentional or not, ones stomach can be irritated or " not right " [as in her report of feeling like it's consuming itself if you will] I'd think that if she has any kind of stomach acid at all and any NASID irritation those two factors would have given her the symptom reported. If I were she, I'd consider taking some aloe internally, maybe some fresh ground flax, maybe some marshmallow tea. maybe a couple of tablespoons of heavy cream. maybe some baking soda--bicarbonate soda and water. maybe look up things to help an irritated stomach and take those immediately prior to putting diluted DMSo on her hands. I cannot fathom being so sick as to not be able to eat anything for two days--and still walk around doing stuff. Yes, I understand (and practice) fasting but that's different from not being able to eat. Your friend appears to have more going on than arthritic fingers and irritated stomach. Hmmmm. Is it possible the DMSO caused a release of stomach acid to which she is unaccustomed? That's not a typical action when DMSO is topically applied, but ? I know one ingests DMSO on an /empty/ stomach to avoid nausea but have never had it cause the stomach-eating-itself sensation when topically applied (nor when ingested). Have her take some demulcent food (lots of demulcent in a search) before applying it next time. Shoot, if she's going to stay off her food for a couple days it could help the stomach if she ingested a Tablespoon of diluted DMSO every few hours. That'd fix Arthur in a few doses and possibly the stomach irritation. Saralou Keep in mind, I never give medical advice;see a medical practicer for that. I do exercise my 1st amendment right to practice my religion per 4:17 and to freely express my opinion, citing my experience, reading, hypotheses, conclusions, musings, ideas etc. > > I am reposting this inquiry as I did not get any responses. Guest guest
I 'm rather clueless as to exactly how this happens but ... maybe she needs more bicarbonates to buffer her stomach lining, esp since it's already been irritated. The stomach I understand is very difficult to heal. Ulcer patients have a dickens of a time bcz it gets used so much, and needs essentially to stay 'acid'. More acids cause pain. An interesting experiment wd be to take some Alka-Seltzer Gold or baking soda in water + a splash of lemon-lime juice. If the reaction stops, you've got your answer. If this is indeed the case, I'd suggest going to potassium bicarb, sold in brewing stores or online.. ($6-7 lb.) Sodium can irritate the stomach in these cases, so months of sodium alka-seltzer (baking soda) might not be wise.. Reg alka has aspirin, so that's definitely out over the long haul too. It might be good to get a medical exam to see if there's an ulcer or not. My friend has nursed one for years; it can rupture if not properly treated. The caveat here is they say it's healed by taking their drugs, and then she ended up in emergency surgery. You'd just want a definitive diagnosis, not their treatment for it. ---tls Re: Can DMSO cause stomach irritation? .. DMSO (topically). Guest guest
Hi, Mara. I have used DMSO for quite some time, both topically and internally and haven't had any problems. That being said... I had to take antibiotics for while a few years back and, in spite of taking lots of probiotics and yogurt, experienced horrible stomach and gut pains after a while. When I complained to my surgeon, he handed me a bottle of Mylanta..lol.. Gee.. thanks doc. I felt like I had eaten ground glass.. Long story, short... I ended up taking a product put out by Lane Labs called " Nature's Lining " . It literally can help to strengthen weak areas of the stomach.. rebuild them and thicken them. My experience with this product is that.. after using a whole bottle and part of another (about a month and 1/2), I haven't had to take it any more and I no longer experience gut or stomach pain and it has been several years since this happened. If this is your friend's problem, it can be an easy fix and relatively inexpensive. If memory serves, you just chew one capsule with meals. Now.. let me also say that I have never had a problem with gerds etc. I do feel like the antibiotic really did a number on me and the Nature's Lining 'cured' the damage. I too, took ibuprophen for years and had stopped taking it a year or so before my surgeries (I broke my back yrs ago and have unrelenting pain). She needs to get off the ibuprophen, take shark cartilage or bovine cartilage and hyaluronic acid etc... There are things 'out there' that can help with inflammation and pain that won't have the side effects of ibuprophen. Guest guest
Am wondering here about long term lowering pH in the stomach and the ramifications on health and nutrition. Seems to me that a long term program of a neutralilzer of any kind will cause a decrease in nutrition by simply rendering all foods to where they can not be as easily metabolized. I know steady use of antacids can do that. I took vinegar and cut caffeine to be rid of heartburn and reflux and it worked. Now I do not event take vinegar at all, but my coffee intake remains at one cup a day, and not three as it was before. Am wondering about using aloe vera to soothe and heal the ulcer or whatever the problem is. The Budwig diet will cause the body pH to raise, which could help arthritis. Hyalauronic acid supplement/capsules is supposed to be good for arthritis too. Guest guest
Which bottle? The DMSO or something for MS? IF you ingest DMSO on a stomach with food in it, it is likely you will have some gastric upset. IF you apply DMSO topically and get queasy, something else is going on. It is possible, anything's possible, especially when we believe. No one who uses DMSO topically with any regularity reports gastric upset--whatever " gastric upset " means. If she wants to think it's the DMSO, she'll get it every time she uses the DMSO. Placebo effect is often stronger than intended effects. Is she a diet pop drinker? Maybe it's reacting with residual aspartame? You said she's an ibuprofin user; perhaps that's reacting in the stomach. While individual results vary, it is NOT commonly reported among topical DMSO users to have gastric upset. You have to look at the whole environment to make the link. Saralou DMSO Topically - Information and Recommended Uses http://www.diagnose-me.com/treat/T215027.html Histotoxic changes were observed together with healing of ischemic <../glossary/G1083.html> ulcers <../glossary/G483.html> on fingertips, relief from pain and stiffness, and an increase in strength. Guest guest
Mara, I sent her LDN info when I was trying it a couple yrs back...she didn't act on it, she was so heavily involved with her MS specialists and all the drugs that she wasn't up for trying it...I know a lot of MS patients do well with LDN. Sadly, I believe the tons of drugs my sis took/takes, has taken a heavy toll. She trusted those docs..MS is horrible, many dis-eases are....joyce ________________________________ To: DimethylSulfoxide-DMSO Sent: Tuesday, May 29, 2012 10:24 AM Subject: Re: Can DMSO cause stomach irritation? Guest guest
Joyce, I am so sorry. I know how hard it is to have to watch this. mara > Mara, I sent her LDN info when I was trying it a couple yrs back...she didn't act on it, she was so heavily involved with her MS specialists and all the drugs that she wasn't up for trying it...I know a lot of MS patients do well with LDN. Sadly, I believe the tons of drugs my sis took/takes, has taken a heavy toll. She trusted those docs..MS is horrible, many dis-eases are....joyce > > > ________________________________ > > To: DimethylSulfoxide-DMSO > Sent: Tuesday, May 29, 2012 10:24 AM > Subject: Re: Can DMSO cause stomach irritation? > > Does your sister know about Low Dose Naltrexone for MS? Guest guest
I have a lovely friend whose daughter was diagnosed with MS and the family were distraught and similarly totally refused to look at anything other than the " Best Specialist " in Melbourne - not sure if people are snobs, stupid or just blind - heart breaking. I never say anything now to them about MS as they know best. Just as most people know best when I mention my favourite homeopathic remedy that I know will resolve symptoms - then I sometimes bite my tongue and am thankful that I have a husband who takes anything I give him - at least I can resolve symptoms in someone!! I recommended a remedy which I know would give someone instant relief on another list and some herbal student came along and advised against it! I was so gobsmacked I didn't respond. 1961 I started prescribing homeopathy. Jane Re: Can DMSO cause stomach irritation? >> > > > >> > > > ..
