Hi ,

Making sure you get enough VitD but NOT too much is important. ANY possible

benefits of over-enthusiastic supplementing which increase VitD beyond 60 ng/ml

are not supported by any research studies. My doctor wants my 25(OH)D level at

50 or above but less than 60.

Every person absorbs and/or produces vitamin D in varying amounts. One person

may simply expose arms and legs several times a week and have and maintain

adequate levels of D, others may take a supplement of 4,000 IU daily and for

various reasons not increase their VitD level at all. And again, others may

simply increase calcium intake and their VitD will rise with no supplemental D.

Some people need more D, from sunlight and/or supplements. Some people don't.

Some people need more or less than other people because of many and varied

reasons.

Getting VitD from the sunlight and absorbed through the skin is entirely a

different process than taking it via a supplement pill. Any absorption via the

sun is best, as mega dosing with VitD3 supplements does NOT always turn out

favorable. It can only take a few weeks of consuming 50,000 IUs of vitD3 a day

to develop hypocalcaemia or renal failure.

Also, if you read the blogs of Dr Joe Prendergast you will see that he does in

fact cause his patients harm. I just read that someone wrote: " I was receiving

50,000 units of D3 daily under Dr. Joe's direction and wound up in Stanford

Hospital ER with acute renal failure. Apparently my kidney function was not

being properly

monitored. " And I also read that a doctor while a resident gave 50,000 IUs of

VitD3 to a hospitalized patient and within two weeks the patient had to be

readmitted with hypercalcemia.

So TESTING is essential, that is, if you want to be healthy.

Best,

~Bj

does not maintain them as long as D3 does. Also, as I recall, D2 is the form

occasionally associated with problems at very, very high doses (not 50,000).

Most docs and most people are not aware that 50,000 D3 capsules ARE available

and without Rx. D2 is Rx. I get mine from Biotech Pharmacal at

I live in a mountainous area, too. Nonetheless, we should always take special

care to balance ALL our bone minerals not just bring up our VitD level. If we

don't balance all hormones, vitamin and minerals etc a variety of various harm

will likely be the result.

Mine was tested as low and I started taking 5,000 mg/day and after 6 months it

had gone up to the normal range, but nowhere near too high. I told my doc I was

taking that much (because he rx'd less and he said 5,000mg a day was fine).

I haven;t heard of the once a week kind and I suppose he wouldn't have you on

that one very long.

anyone take the 50,000 D2 capsule once per week - I guess it's a slow release or

something? A friend of mine with Celiac was put on it, now my doc sent it into

my pharmacy without asking me. My Vit D level is 15 - normal range starts at 20.

Looks like she also called in a D3 1000 mg/ day tablet. Seems like a lot of D.

Has anyone else felt marked improvement from taking D? I never have. Anyone else

take the high dose capsule?

How does it make you feel, Miaja? Notice any difference?

THanks,

I didn't feel bad when my vit D was low, so when it went up I didn't feel any

different. I don't feel anything when I take it.
