Guest guest
After reading up on miralax I understand now why my 10 year old dd will not take it. When the doctor suggested she take this because she was sick with a stomach bug (dr thought she was constipated and blocked even though the xrays showed nothing) my daughter did some research on her laptop. She is the one who made me aware of what this medication was and could do. I am so glad that I found this site. My daughter has been sick off and on since the beginning of school. She has always had stomach problems but the dr wrote it off as lactose issues, food allergies, etc. This year her stomach problems became worse and after a bout of the stomach flu I took her to the dr. Mainly to get an excuse for our crazy school system. That is when the problems started. First the dr. told us that she was full of poop and sent us to the hospital immediately to have xrays. We did and the xrays came back okay. Next she put her on miralax and fiber one pills. I gave her the miralax for about four days and notice that her condition was getting worse. We had an appt with an allergist/immune doctor the next day so we went there. I stop the miralax because why make her sicker than she already is. The allergist ruled out allergies and had blood work for celiac disease, bacterial or viral infections, and a cbc work up. He is thinking that she might have IBD/crohns. I have crohns so there is a chance she does have it. Our wonderful allergist told me to stop the miralax immediately and made an appt with Nemours Clinic in a nearby city for her. Appt is Feb 28th. Meanwhile she went back to school but still is sick as can be. Wednesday I picked her up from school and she could barely move so the next day I took her back to the pediatrician. Once again we are on the subject of poop, constipation, and compacted. She wants her on the miralax for a month till we see the GI specialist. I asked her about the xrays and she said that maybe the xray didn't show something. Well she was the one who told me they were fine and the allergist doctor not only let me see them but told me they were good. So I saw the xrays in questions. No poop and no blockage. Plus my daughter goes to the bathroom everyday. I asked her about the cramps and she said if she would poop that would go away and give her the miralax. I gave her one dose last night and after seeing how much pain she was in I decided to read up on it. Plus she said she would not take it. After finding this site there is no way I am giving that stuff to her. And she is feeling a little better today with the same old cramping that she has been having.
