Guest guest
My thyroid issues started 11 years ago after chemo/radiation for breast cancer. At the time - my TSH was 27 or something like that. and antibodies. (do antibodies always mean Hashimotos?).Synthroid didn't work for me - but Levoxyl did better. After years of adjusting dosage etc - I finally landed on a dose that worked really well: 100mcg 6 days per week and 125mcg on the 7th day of the week. Life went on - thyroid good for about 5 years like that. Recently I've been feeling badly - a lot is "off". Finally dawned on me to check thyroid - and it was low 0.7. Usually I'm around 1.1 to 1.3 since feeling good. I decreased meds to 75 mcg daily - and 6 weeks later -it's even lower 0.3. I'm not sleeping and my mental function is very messed up. I'm wondering 1) how quickly to adjust again? Maybe I don't need thyroid meds anymore? Maybe my immune system has recovered from cancer/chemo etc...and is back to normal - before thyroid? My one thyroid test cost me $400 something dollars. The next one I was able to get at a health fair - $40. I can't afford to keep testing and am uncertain how to proceed. Did I mention my only doctor (oncologist/internist) got ill and sold his practice? So it's a good time for me to find a new doctor - as I haven't been a 2 or 3 years. appreciate any input / thoughts you might have.
