Guest guest
Hi all after reading a few of the posts on Learning and all, I just wanted to say my memory became so bad before surgery I was lost going to my own home, I got lost last year going to my GP whom Id been seeing for over 3 years! I was a half hour late and crying. After my surgery (first one) I was a patient at Craig Rehab for almost 2 years, and one of the things they did with me there within about 2 weeks after surgery was having my OT do games with me for memory, IT was very much related to my ACM and still is. We found I did well with Solitaire and Mah Jong on the computer, also the game " TROUBLE " on the table their, to help with with my left and right. To this day if asked by my Surgeon or PT to lift my left foot or Toe, or right foot or toe I cannot! without looking directly at my feet, its an association problem, not connecting the action with the direction, they said my brain does not compute the 2 together anymore. It may not be anything other than Stress or emotional for some, but for me its a very real problem, so I continue to play the games and STILL practice word associations and IM only 39. One more important thing: About a month or so ago I saw a very interesting show on a man who had suffered not Alzheimer's but Dementia of some sort, he suddenly developed a wonderful talent in art, but could not for the life of him remember how to do certain simple talks he had done his entire life (he was about 65), he actually sells his art now and NEVER did art his whole life, nor had any interest in it, and was a Type A personality. They said after cell research on the brain that when one part of the brain is not functioning another part can become a talent even with absolutely no interest in it. Well, I believe this whole heartily. Ive had dyslexia my entire life, went to Doctors, had tests, ect... I now read entire Medical reference books, PDR's and the most complicated material, I read actual NSG material and understand it all. My mother and I had both seen that program on that man, and totally believe this is what happened to me, of course I had the interest to learn it because of my illness, but my comprehesions level is amazingly good. I took even testes to test my IQ, I was told I was a Genius it was 150. Well, there's my 2 cents worth.
