Sara,

Sometimes making such drastic diet change, such as mine as well, risks insuline resistance symtpms. Our Amercian diets so rich in fast carbs, include all of the bread that we just gave up with gluten, and the pasta, etc, you may be having hypoglycemic episodes and may want to look up syndrome x and read up on how to manage potential blood sugar issues. I know I'm being very careful around those. But your symptoms are really similiar to mine when I'm jittery regarding sugar problems!

Subject: In thyroid crisis and nothing is making sense to me right now.To: Thyroiditis Date: Thursday, March 17, 2011, 3:34 PM

I am one month past the end of a 90 day detox, in hopes of healing my leaky gut and reducing my dose of levothroid. I have been on 100 mcg for quite a while but after many months of declining health and increasing weight, I opted for a detox and diet change; giving up gluten.I feel good but I have bouts of crisis symptoms. The first one was around Jan 1st, when among other things, I began getting irritable, aggressive, confused, lethargic with moments of anxiety and heart palpitations. I reduced my levothroid to 75 mcg on my own and made an appt with the doctor. This was in the first week of January, 2011.Things felt better with the new dose and then two days ago, the jitters, heat palps, aggressiveness and confusion came back. In the middle of it, in all my blurred vision, I had a blood draw. This is note I sent to my doc, with her response below it:NOTE TO MY DOC:"I had blood drawn this morning for TSH, but

wanted to contact you to let you know why, in case there's anything else I should do before coming in. I plan to make an appt with you for this week.I'm beginning to feel fatigued, short tempered, confused. Last night I started to feel that inability to get through a sentence without stopping to take a breath. I'm having trouble assembling words to communicate clearly.I'm jittery, with moments of nervousness but only in the physical sense; absence of any emotional triggers.I also am experiencing blurred vision; I feel like I need to rub the sleep out of my eyes, but it doesn't seem to help. The last time I had these symptoms, I lowered my dose of levothroid to 75 mcg from 100 mcg. I'm currently on the 75 mcg.I hover in the "normal" range for TSH, but I'm certain that my normal is not the same as the next person's normal. I would like to feel good every day, not just for 3 out of every 4 months.Looking

forward to your response.HER RESPONSE:"I would actually recommend going up on the thyroid to try to get the goal TSH less then 2.5. I would recommend 100mcg on Mon and Fri to alternate with the 75mcg. We can recheck the tsh in 2 months. Let me know if you need more 100mcg pills. Sincerely, Sara Rotner***I'm so turned around I can't even figure out why this doesn't make sense to me. In case you are wondering, my doc only routinely orders TSH levels. Here is the lab history as I have kept track:Ferritin 1/10/2011 67 Standard range 22-291 ng/mL TSH Standard range 0.10-5.50 uIU/mL 12/15/2008 0.08 1/9/2009 3.3 2/10/2009 28.5 3/31/2009 3.93 7/2/2009 2.05 11/13/2009 5.48 3/5/2010 3.36 3/25/2010 4.63 11/8/2010 1.40 1/10/2011 3.97 3/16/2011 4.86ALT 16 Standard range < 36 -U/L Free T4 Standard range 0.8-1.7 ng/dL

3/28/2008 0.9 4/28/2008 1.1 7/2/2009 1.2 11/8/2010 1.4 1/10/2011 1.2 I could really use some clarity on all this since I just can't think straight right now.Jen in cali
