Guest guest
Hi everyone. I will try to make this story as short as possible. About 10-12 years ago my family doctor had found I had an enlarged thyroid, after doing an ultrasound they found that I had a small thyroid nodule but decided to leave it alone and watch it. I had gone though MANY Endo's over the years at first none could tell me why I had thyroid symptoms an enlarge thyroid with a nodule. THEN after several Endos I finally found one that after testing more then just TSH like all the rest did he diagnosed me with HAshimoto! After many doctors and no ultrasound done for some time at that point I had one done and was told by the Endo I was THEN seeing I had no nodules at all. I had several ultrasound done while under his care and each time he told me NO NODULES your fine. After having problems with that Endo that kept telling me I had no nodules yet he kept having ultrasounds done about every 6months I began seeing a new Endo who never did an ultrasound and did not care about my Free T4 either so after fighting with him I once again found a new doctor THIS TIME I gave up on endo's and have been seeing a DO who has been fantastic! So this new doctor had me get a new ultrasound done since I have not had one yet again for about 1 1/2 years. I went to the same imaging center so they could compare ultrasounds and send my doctor results from all the ultrasounds that I have had. When he got the results he told me that the Endo had lied to me and that in ALL the ultrasounds I still had the nodule and that it had grown in size but is still relatively small at about 9mm AND now I also had several other nodules as well. He is having a blood test done to see if the main nodule is Parathyroid or not be he said really at this point in time either way it really makes no difference which it is but later in life it will effect me differently and he also said from the ultrasound the tech could not tell if the nodules were on top of the thyroid or INSIDE the thyroid. He also said most benign nodules are filled with water and show up black on an ultrasound and mine do not. He said it was actually hard for the tech to tell if they were nodules or thyroid tissue but after reviewing they decided they are defiantly nodules or tumors. And my thyroid is HUGE very enlarge and sometimes I have trouble swallowing because of it. He had mentioned needle biopsy but said that he still thinks they are too small to do one. Has anyone had one done? how large was your nodule(s)? Was your Parathyroid or thyroid nodules and what the difference. I have done a lot of research on hashimoto but not on nodules because I was under the impression I no longer had any and now find I was lied to. Anyway after doing research I find that only about 10% are cancerous but certain things increase chances of them being cancerous like if they grow in size (mine has), if they are not waterfilled (mine are not), if they are found before the age of 20 (mine was I was only about 11), and if you have no family history of thyroid problems or nodules (I dont no one before me in the family ever had thyroid conditions). Any information you can share would be great thanks!
