Guest guest
Dear friends, A very close friend of mine is in the hospital right now. She has Hashi's, adrenal insufficiency, and a severe Epstein Barr virus outbreak. Right now, she's going into adrenal crisis (as in 's). No joke. And this isn't her " self diagnosis " --this is straight from her doctors. She has just been through all the testing to prove it. It's a life-or-death situation. (If you all remember the beloved authoress Jane Austen, she died of this very thing.) They want to put her on Cortef immediately, but the problem is, the last time she took it HC it really gave her excruciating pain in her adrenals, like her body was rejecting it. Right now everyone is afraid that she's allergic to the HC. If this is true, she'll die. I was just on the phone with her. She told me an interesting theory of hers: maybe she needs to address BOTH her cortisol AND aldosterone levels at the same time rather than just the cortisol. Maybe her adrenals could handle things better if she was on BOTH Florinef and Cortef. I guess my question to you all is one of desperation: has anyone been in or close to a situation like this? If so, what was done to resolve it? Has anyone else reacted to HC in this way? If so, why? What does an allergic reaction to HC look like exactly? If you have reacted poorly to HC, was it better when you took Florinef as well? I realize this is a special situation that most of us have not and never will have to face. But I thought I'd just send out this email in hopes that someone may be able to offer some sound wisdom and advice. Thanks to you all for the great discussions going on in this group. I am so fortunate to have found such a compassionate and knowlegable circle of sufferers! Kind Regards,
