Sauerkraut and the other veggies in the cabbage family can produce alot of gas, so don't take too many of these all at once. Whole grain cereals especially bran. A banana on a bowl of raisin bran should help You might consider a stool softener such as colace, fibercon or other fiber tablets, and or increase your metamucil. Beer works well for me, but I wouldn't recommend it if you are taking narcotics. The main thing is to maintain the same amount of roughage each day, and to not wait more than 2 - 3 days between bowel movements.
