Every state is different, some may not even have a wait list. This is one of the challenging state issues we all would like to happen, push for money follows a person for when one moves out of state. There are different rules and funding amounts for each of the different waiver program.

Some have other waiver programs, contact the local authority or whatever they are called to speak to an Intake coordinator to see what type of waiver program are provided in the state you are referring to.

This is the only time when money follows a person in Texas though, not out of state.

Money Follows the Person Demonstration Projecthttp://www.dads.state.tx.us/providers/pi/mfp_demonstration/

Wish you well & please keep us posted of what you find out as we all learn together. Thanks!Irma

No National situation in place huh Irma.........

Thank you

Thanks Irma,

It took 7 years to get off the waiting list and now we’re leaving....

We were able to piece together his recovery and this is the only thing that matters. Honestly I just want to get to our next stop (Ohio) and help as many families as I can. I wish I could pick a family to give our MDCP funding to.

Will keep in touch sweet Irma....

My love

Hey Haven, we’re going to Ohio and I’m looking forward to a new start.

I love learning from this site and hopefully providing hope/support to others too. I’ll be lingering on the board

Take care Haven!

We moved to S. Dakota & we've already received more services in the 4 months we've been here for our son from the state & school district than we had in the 7+ years since our son was diagnosed. We were still "waiting" for support from the notorious list. It's nice to get a "fresh start" although we miss my friends & family a lot. I hope he continues to improve here.I like to stay on this "site" & hear about what's going on with families like ours even though were so far away...we still have so many of the same issues & concerns no matter where we live.Dolly

Yes, unfortunately, if your child leaves the state of Texas, he/she loses MDCP

and you have start all over in another state getting on waiting lists, etc..

Something we had to think about when picking a guardian for our child should my

husband and I both pass away. Ugh! Not fun to think about but necessary.

: My trip over to your neck of the woods fell through this past Monday, but I'm going to be there for sure next Friday.  Available or gone or too busy?  I'll be there from 9:00-10:30.  Hilda From: Texas-Autism-Advocacy [mailto:Texas-Autism-Advocacy ] On Behalf Of Sent: Friday, October 21, 2011 1:37 PMTo: Texas-Autism-Advocacy Subject: Re: MDCP Thanks Irma, It took 7 years to get off the waiting list and now we’re leaving.... : This is something my family refuses to get their minds around. EVERYONE is out of state. We will not have enough money (even with the amount of life insurance we have) for someone to be able to take care of him while they put him on the waiting list in another state. I asked my sister specifically if she knows how long the waiting list is in her state and she tells me no. Then she tells me not to let an attorney be the sole person who administers a special needs trust, to make sure someone in the family has oversight (and she means her), and when I said, maybe I can get my sister-in-law's husband, who is an attorney to do that so they can understand all the legal implications. She sounded very upset. But you see I've tried to send her information on guardianship and she doesn't " have time " to read it. When I recently went on a visit, did she even ask me about . No. I tried to bring him up in a conversation and she cut me off within 1-2 minutes, telling me that she was tired and needed to go to bed. The next day I felt guilty to ask her to watch some video I brought to show her because her computer and where she lives she has a real problem with YouTube, and that part is true because I saw it. Honestly, you don't have time to even ask about your nephew or start reading about the things you need to know to be a guardian or oversight of a special needs trust or anything of the sort, yet she gets insulted that I'm not going to name her? Give me a frigging break. I can't post this on Facebook because the family lingers there, and I don't hold it against any of my family members when they honestly share that they couldn't do this. I COMPLETELY understand that and appreciate their honesty. When I point all this out to her, she gets ticked off at me, so you know, I don't need the stress. We have no guardian. If we die, will wind up being a ward of the state. I do need to go talk to a lawyer to set things up still, and he is going to be 16, so this needs to be done soon, because you know, both of us could die at the same time or even become incapacitated. The recent death of my friend last week made me acutely aware I have failed my kiddo on doing this. But it's difficult. We don't have the money and only have so much in our line of credit. I think that is the thing holding us back the most. But I know it has to be done. Thanks for letting me share. This is bothering me because I had a visit to this sister just this month. Needed to vent. We just came up on the Texas Home Living waiver list. I almost dropped my teeth, I was so surprised. They said they had a lot of spots to give out. We’ve been on the lists for 3 years. I didn’t even know about this program, I think it’s new.

, sorry you have to leave just as you came up for your spot – that stinks! Hope you like Ohio!

,Please don't just linger. Keep posting!  We would miss you if you didn't.  Good luck in Ohio in your new start.  We are trying to start over too.  I hope to move within two years but within the state of Texas. I want to move further out in the country.  It is getting too crowded here.  I like wide open spaces.

We’re moving somewhere close to Lima (north of Dayton).

I’m going to continue to homeschool. I am traditionally trained and just completed my elem Montessori training at the Houston Montessori Training Center.

We love the north....should be fun.

: Of course you need to stay with our list. We love you and all the wealth of knowledge you shared is something that is not regional, but can be useful to people world-wide. And, just don't move to the Parma School District in Ohio, and I think you'll be safe. (ROTFLMBO) Safe journey. Maybe our physical paths will meet some time in the future. But definitely, please stay with us here.
