Guest guest
wow... great idea... very much like the assisted living facility my dad was in (only a month -- he flipped out and struck some personel) but having a home like environment versus sterile makes so much more sense. Even the facility he has been in for the last 3 years (dementia only) is based on the concept of a more home like setting with a large park-like area INSIDE the unit (my dad would go in and try to climb the trees-- happy at last) so KUDOOS to those who think outside the box... Guest guest
Donna, I'm happy to hear that your Dad is in a facility like this. There are none in the whole New York metropolitan area. They're needed desperately. Guest guest
Hi Norma and Everyone! How exciting to see that The Green House Project (AKA Eden Alternative) is getting public exposure, and that at least one of our friends' LOs resides in such a setting. Norma, you're right, these are needed! Illinois doesn't have them, either - but not for lack of trying. My own organization is part of a professional association of health and human service agencies. Several of our colleague agencies around the country have been on the cutting edge of the project. My own employer got as far as developing plans for building a GH site, only to learn that state public health architecture/care delivery regs are so written that we couldn't get licensed under the model! We had already incorporated many of the caregiving concepts, and I do know a number of facilities who can't/won't build/rebuild the bricks-and-mortar are at least implementing portions of the model - resident involvement, care teams, etc. IL needs these, just like NY and beyond! A great evening to you all - Lin Norma Loeb/CORPHQ/NYTIMES wrote: Donna, I'm happy to hear that your Dad is in a facility like this. There are none in the whole New York metropolitan area. Guest guest
Lin, Kudos to you and your organization for trying your best. And I'm really happy to hear that some parts are being implemented. It takes a LONG time to change opinions and ways of doing things. But we won't give up. It's all part of determination and persistence and we caregivers certainly have both. l pratt <lprattbethany@ya hoo.com> To Sent by: LBDcaregivers LBDcaregivers@yah cc oogroups.com Subject Re: Re: Greenhouse 02/06/2008 04:08 Project PM Please respond to LBDcaregivers@yah oogroups.com Hi Norma and Everyone!
