Subject: Partners Resource Network Conference

Greetings this Beautiful Thursday morning! I want you to take a moment and look at your calendar to see if you are available to attend the Partners Resource Network Statewide Parent Leadership Conference on December 2-3, 2011, here in Austin, Texas! A limited number of parent stipends will be available through PRN (covers registration, travel allowance, 1/2 the cost of hotel) and Education Service Center Region 13. Parent stipend deadline is NOVEMBER 4, 2011 and they will go quickly! Contact Pat Alvarez, PRN Regional Coordinator at or register through the website: http://www.partnerstx.org/LeadershipConference/index.html Here is additional information about the conference: The conference will take a look at the challenges facing families of children and young adults with disabilities that extend beyond the school day, beyond the school years! Topics will include such “gems†as: A Look Across the Parenting Life Span (An On the Job Training Experience), Effective Advocacy and Leadership Skills, Guardianship and Estate Planning, Sexuality – A reality for persons with disabilities, Person-Centered Planning, State and Community Services and Resources, Parents as Case Managers --Get Your Stuff Together, Behavior Management, Family Life -- What About the Rest of Us?, Stress Management and AFTER School Activities or When the School Bus Doesn’t Stop at Your House Any More. In addition, participants will have the opportunity to voice their opinions and concerns about the challenges their families face, and PRN will document these discussions and pass that information on to agencies, legislators, and others who can make a difference. Participants will be invited to join a post-conference web-based information-sharing site for further discussions and follow-up. The first day of the conference will open with a celebration of PRN’s 25th anniversary and a look at how far we’ve come since 1986. Exhibitors and parent organizations will be on hand throughout the two days to share information about their products and services. The conference will end with a roll-out of PRN’s biggest step into the media world – a parent-friendly DVD about IDEA’s Procedural Safeguards! Everyone who views it and provides feedback will get a free copy. And of course, there will be door prizes, including BIG ones like DVD players, laptops, and software. Wow! As you can see, the folks at PRN feel it’s time for a different kind of conference. We hope to see you there!
