SESSION OVERVIEW: Too many students with disabilities, including those with moderate to more involved disabilities and autism are excluded from literacy experiences that are inclusive, rich, and appropriately challenging. In this workshop, reasons for these exclusions will be explored and a rationale for providing inclusive supports will be offered. a Kluth will also share strategies for including and supporting students with disabilities in reading, writing, speaking, and listening activities. Ideas for enhancing skills in comprehension, fluency, and vocabulary will be highlighted. Session Takeaways: Participants will... Dr. Kluth has been awarded numerous honors in her field and community. Most recently she was a recipient of the 20 Under 40 University of Wisconsin Alumni Achievement Award for her work with students with autism. She was also named the National Down Syndrome Congress Educator of the Year in 2007 & the Belle Center of Chicago’s Inclusion Advocate of the Year in 2006.
