Dear Louise,

Thank you for your advice. I think I will visit my chest doctor

again this week to ask for some medicine for my sinus and chest. I

always cough out yellowish/greenish sputum, but I thought I am ok,

until I feel really sick. So that means I have to take medicine

everytime, my sputum changes colour. Thanks again...i learnt alot.

Regards,Jane

> Hi Jane, it is good to hear from you. I am thankful you found a

doctor who speaks English and is able to help you. Sinus problems

will cause lung infections, and Norma gave excellent advice on how

to help deal with sinus problems. There are products you can buy

without a prescription to help you do nasal rinses. I am on long-

term antibiotics and will most likely continue taking these

medications as long as I live. My doctor has me on a regimen of two

oral antibiotics ... currently they are Azrithromycin and Levoquin.

I will take the Azrithromycin one tablet per day, every other day,

for three doses; I am to do this weekly. When an infection flares

up, then I take the Levoquin, one per day for 14 days. My doctor

prescribes these medications with many refills and I keep both on

hand all the time. Jane please don't wait until you're really sick

to see a doctor ... at the first sign of illness, get in to see him

if at all possible. And it would be good if he prescribed

medications for you to keep on hand. I read not long ago that people

with bronchiectasis can often have colored sputum first thing in the

morning, and then it clears as the day goes on. For me, when my

sputum goes from white to a light yellow, then I know infection is

in my lungs.

Hi Norma,

Thank you for the site. I am learning more about my sickness.

Honestly, I do not know what are my allergies, becos I have not been

tested. I went to see the ENT before, but the doc didnt mentioned

anything about running test. Just said that I should avoid

dust,fur,etc......Other then giving me nose spray, I was not taught

how to clear my sinuses. Prior to my lung infection a week before, I

had really bad headache, toothache and pain around my sinus area, but

I didnt know it could be lead to such serious problem. May I know,

what kind of sinus rinse that you use? So far, the chest doc, has

only given me one nasal spray,Flixonase..... thank you. Please advice.

Regards,jane

> I recently started coughing up bloody mucus. I have had the

bacteria, pseudomonas, colonized in my lungs since shortly after

being diagnosed with bronchiectasis about six years ago. My

pulmonary doctor had prescribed an inhaled antibiotic that I inhale

using a nebulizer for about four years. The inhaled antibiotic had

been keeping the infections pretty much controlled. The last two

sputum cultures indicated that the antibiotic that I had been

inhaling was not helping now so I have been switched to another

inhaled antibiotic.

> You mention that you have chronic sinusitis. Do you have

allergies? Have you seen an ear, nose and throat doctor? Do you

use any kind of sinus rinse? I have a machine in which I use a

solution of uniodized salt and baking soda that I prepare myself to

irrigate my sinuses. There are other methods that you can use to

irrigate your sinuses. This has helped me by clearing the sinuses

so I don't have so much drainage going down into my lungs. Here is

a Web site that you can search for such methods:
