I've been asked to explain...............This has been reported many times after taking PEG....................here's what I don't understand? if the ureter tube isn't working right? Why would they suggest antibiotics to treat? Just so everyone knows, they wanted to give radioactive dye through a catheter to a toddler to check for this..............I beat them to the punch and asked what they do IF she has it..........they replied, give antibiotics!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So, if it is an ongoing problem, I wonder what they do? I believe this all started in the kidney's with the PEG, 10 years ago and there is a horrific odor that comes from the urine. jeanie What is reflux? The important parts of the urinary system are the kidneys themselves, the tubing system and the bladder. The kidneys act as filters removing unwanted water and waste products and passing then into the urine. The tubing system takes urine from the kidneys into the bladder by the tubes called ureters, and then from the bladder by a tube called the urethra. (See the diagram below.) The bladder stores the urine until it is necessary to pass it.There is a valve at the junction of the ureter with the bladder, and when the bladder is

being emptied the valve prevents the urine from travelling up the ureter towards the kidney. In urinary reflux this valve does not work properly and each time the bladder is emptied urine flows up the ureter towards the kidney.http://www.renalresource.com/brochures/ur.php ----- Forwarded Message ----To: "miralax " <miralax >Sent: Mon, December 26, 2011 9:30:58 AMSubject: strong odor in urine

Has anyone else noticed a strong smell in their urine after taking PEG? I'm very concerned about this as it's happened since my dd took this medication 10 years ago. No one seems to be able to locate the problem? It's a strong odor that's similar to old people's.............I'm wondering if it's from the urinary retention that developed after she took this med. or if it's from the metablolic acidosis that the FDA is investigating as a result of giving these children this med? Does anyone have any suggestions?
