Guest guest
Lin, HealthCheck has the Thyroid II test (I can't remember if that's the exact name, but go in there and look at their test lists), and it has TSH, Free T3, and Free T4, which is unlike the other test on there, that has TSH and the Totals tests. The first pkg (TSH, Free T3, Free T4) is $75.00 I believe, and if you put the 12345 code in the box, you will be discounted a little, I believe. There is a $12.00 handling fee also. It's worth it to not be bewildered about where you stand (not that I'm not bewildered because I need to go test again myself; so for me it's " put your money where your mouth is, hehe!), even though you may need more or less than what your tests show. When we're goofed up the way we are, we have to stick with that testing, I say, about every 3 months or so, so that we can get to what we need to be faster. This is one place that I just can't bring myself to be doctor " yes-no " dependent anymore, considering that he/she is not walking around in my body. If I run across a good thyroid doc who's not going to cost a couple of paychecks (we have to eat, pay rent, etc...), then I surely will go to him/her, as long as I don't have to buy a plane ticket to do it. It is so frustrating, I know. My digestion is STILL so slow, that I sometimes forget what it is that was sapping half my energy, until I finally have a visit in the lady's room. No kidding, that can make you SOOO sick, people don't realize how much. Guest guest
Many, so many it's ridiculous. One month I'm still eating bananas, watermelons, and heaven knows what else, and two months down the road I'm having a mild anaphylactic attack from them, rashes and racing sensations and other weird symptoms, things I never had until thyroid problems. And I love the breads. Now they're like eating an entire box of modelling clay as they go into my intestines and sit there forever. I know better, it just tastes SOOO good at the time! With no yeast I felt very restricted wrt wheat products (I've always loved breads!), however once I dropped the wheat as well as the yeast the weight started to drop of me and my digestive system started clearing like never before. Now, to my own demise, I succumb and always go back to the bread and the yeast (my taste buds sabotage me <g>) but when I do I feel like a slug with such a blocked sytstem and major bloating all over again (this also causes shocking back-aches). Ever sine I lost my thyroid function I have found myself sensitive to many foods that I previously enjoyed (milk *fat*, not lactose, is another odd one). Has anyone else found food sensitivities since hypothyroid? In Australia,
Guest guest
Lin, This may not make a difference for you... but one of the things that really seemed to help my body shift was eating beans.... ..... no laughter here, please..... I used dry beans... Pintos, 'cause that's what was on sale.... Rinse them in cool water until the water runs off clean... then fill the container with water to about 2 inches above the beans... let them soak overnight... rinse well several times during the day for the next two days.... the water will be a bit cloudy, rinse until the water runs clear..... When they are just about ready to sprout rinse one last time and then cook them... just as you would any baked bean... you can add diced meats and such too..... The natural fiber and liquid in the beans really helped to get my body back in sync... I went through several months were I just craved beans... I had them with rice or pasta... diced meat... gravy.... all in a bowl... and chowed them down at every meal.... it purged out my insides and finally got me to a point where my insides could start working correctly again... When I was hyper I had the same diarrhea problems you did.... Then, after the RAI and going hypo.... the opposite problem.. I dealt with that for many years... I was still having a lot of problems after finally getting on Natural thyroid.... but then that bean craving grabbed me... and that seemed to do the trick.... The soaking encourages the beans to move from seed stage to sprout stage.. it increases the protein level while reducing the carb level... so fewer carb calories.... BUT, more important, it also changes the enzymes needed to digest them and you don't have all the gas that normally comes with eating beans... You'll still have some gas... and it may be kind of 'potent' ... but when your body isn't cleaning out the way it should... if you can find a method that will give it a boost in the right direction to functioning as it should...... it's worth a shot. If you start the beans on a Wednesday, after work... soak them overnight.... rinse them before work, after work and before bed on Thursday and Friday.. they'll be ready to cook first thing Saturday morning and will be ready to eat by later afternoon.... if they aren't agreeing with you aromatically..... it will hit you Sunday.... so you won't be at work (assuming you do the Monday thru Friday type schedule) and you can decide what to do from there. I just made two big batches..... A 2 pound bag of beans, all cooked up... makes 36 half cup servings. What I do now is scoop them into muffin tins... so they are in half cup servings and then freeze them.... after they are frozen.. you turn them upside down and run hot water on the bottoms of the muffin cups and the beans will drop out in a clump.. then just bag them up and you can grab a serving anytime you want..... if you eat small amounts regularly your body will naturally build up the bacteria in your intestinal tract to be able to digest the beans without the gas problem... If you've heard of Beano tablets.. they are simply introducing that bacteria to your gut so that you have less gas. It may not be what your body needs to get itself balanced right.. but it sure worked for me.....
