Guest guest
Sabahat,I used to take my son out twice a week for speech therapy as the school was not providing an adequate amount. You need to tell them that this is what he needs and he will need early release for it twice a week. Since it is after the " roll call, " which is usually done at ten or ten thirty (which means he will be counted present and they get their state and federal funds for his attendance) it should not be a problem. This needs to be written into his IEP and becomes part of his " individualized plan. " Personally, THEY ought to be paying for the ABA if they do not provide it in the school setting.Haven
Guest guest
Yes, you are allowed to take him out for ABA therapy. They shouldn't give you any problem. Marilyn
Guest guest
yes with autism its excusable without penalty. my friend took her son out early almost every day for some sort of therapy. he was in f/t ppcd though. Sent from my iPhone Hi guys, My son will start kindergarden in the fall in Plano ISD. He has been doing ABA in home for the past three years with a wonderful therapist. In order to accommodate her into his schedule next year, I need to pull him out of school 2 days a week at 1(school ends at 2:45). I know that HB 192 allows me to do this without any penalty to him(technically). I was wondering if anyone else has pulled their kids out for any therapy. Do I just tell the school that I will be doing this? What about his IEP goals? Can they use that as an excuse why he is not mastering them? I can have them take a few out to make up for the time. I'm going to talk to the principal soon so I would appreciate ANY help. Thank you so much for your help in advance Sabahat
Guest guest
I also pulled my son out early once a week for extra speech and OT. What we had to do (down here in Dickinson ISD, below Houston) was bring in a print-out showing the appointment times. They stuck it in his file, and that was it. We also spent a year or two bringing him in late once a week because of it, and it was the same thing – just bring in the print out. Never had any issues. Guest guest
Are you making sure your son gets enough vitamin D to stay within 80-100 ng/ml range? Guest guest
Wait! What? What the district tries to tell me is when my daughter (1st grade) doesn't meet her goals and I had taken her out early for outside anything then they blame it on that. Meaning it's my fault! So are you saying by law they have can't Penalize us for taking her out a few days a week early? She has a Speech/Language group scheduled from 12-2 once a week on top of her other 2 days of being pulled out about 2:30.Sent from my Verizon Wireless BlackBerrySender: Texas-Autism-Advocacy Date: Tue, 2 Aug 2011 19:04:24 -0500To: Texas-Autism-Advocacy <Texas-Autism-Advocacy >ReplyTo: Texas-Autism-Advocacy Subject: Re: Question about therapy and school yes with autism its excusable without penalty. my friend took her son out early almost every day for some sort of therapy. he was in f/t ppcd though.
