Guest guest
Hi Everyone, I'm new to the group. I am 32 years old and had a TR done two years this February to no success. I used a local doctor here in MI. He is suggesting that I use IVF, but I've already tried it with no success. My DH and I have been TTC for 3 years now. My left tube reblocked after my surgery. I'm considering a second possible TR with Dr. Levin. I have a bonus coming up and recently sold my house so we do have some cash saved for the next round of TTC. What are your thoughts on this? I need some advice. I am so frustrated. My DH has no children and I have 2 boys from a previous bad marriage. (11 & 13) I'm not ready to quit yet tho. If I do it, I'm thinking early 2002. Is anyone else planning for this time?
Guest guest
, Dr. Levin is wonderful, as I'm sure everyone else here will protest. Perhaps you could talk to him and he could help you in another route before you pay for another tr. If you have one good tube... Who knows? Call him. He's always there and great to talk to. He will tell you honestly what he thinks. Good Luck and Welcome. > Hi Everyone, > > I'm new to the group. I am 32 years old and had a TR done two years > this February to no success. Guest guest
My daughter doesn't drink regular cows milk but she does eat some cheese, ice cream & yogurt. She was breastfed, then did soy milk and now drinks Lactaid milk. We tried eliminating all dairy for about 10 days once & didn't notice a difference. Haven't ever tried eliminating grains. My son has numerous severe food allergies and basically stopped gaining weight after 9 months even after eliminating so many foods that he is allergic to. He also has mucousy and sometimes bloody stools. So he is being scoped to see if he's still eating things that are bothering him, check for esophagus problems, swallowing problems, etc. So needless to say I've been overwhelmed & more focused on his issues and my daughter's issues have been put on the back-burner. To: "miralax " <miralax > Sent: Monday, January 9, 2012 4:20 PM Subject: Re: New here Hi Sara, Welcome to the group. You'll find a great deal of good information here that will help you get your children off Miralax AND stop the constipation. For many of us here, we've been able to help our children through trial and error based on the information found through the group. My DD was put on Miralax at nearly 18 months. She was nearly 27 months when I took her off cold-turkey. I'd started to wean her off but someone here suggested that I take her off it cold turkey. I did and have never looked back. The reason she was constipated was Cow's milk, which was preceded by a round of antibiotics for a UTI. A simple solution would have been to put my DD on Lactose-Free Milk, which is what I'm doing now, instead of Rx-ing a drug off-label. This knee-jerk prescription of Miralax for childhood constipation seems to be epidemic. Often times, the doctors don't even try to find out what's causing the constipation to begin with. Anyway, I took my DD off of it when she failed to thrive, amongst other issues (irrational paranoia, nightmares, rashes, tics, OCD-like behaviour, sudden, unprovoked violence, etc.).To help her heal, I started her on an elimination diet, basically took her back to formula, and removed milk and white flour foods from her diet. I also tried a probiotic that ended up worsening her situation - but it turned out that it contained milk, so check yours to see if that's the same thing. I stated giving her vitamin C gummies in additon to cereals and formula with probiotics and that helped a great deal. Others here will tell you of a myriad things (Juice Plus, Kirkman's Probiotics, etc.) that helped with their children.Would you mind me asking why your 2 year-old needs a colonoscopy?I hope that you will succeed in taking your kids off this drug. Good luck to you!Lillu From: Sara JaneC To: miralax Sent: Monday, January 9, 2012 2:11 PM Subject: New here Hi, I just found this group and thought I'd introduce myself. I'm Sara, mom to a 4 and 2 year old. My 4 year daughter old has been on Miralax since last March, so about 10 months. My 2 year old son just started Miralax this weekend for a colonoscopy prep (1 capful twice a day). It made him hyperactive and crazy. The first night it took us a couple hours to get him to bed. The second night we couldn't get him down until 2am (almost 7 hrs past bedtime). I called the GI doctors who deny there is any connection to the Miralax. Then thinking about it, ever since my daughter started it her behavior has gotten worse. We've had to start seeing a behavioral therapist who thinks she has anxiety, sensory issues and maybe even autism (that one we don't believe though). So of course that got me researching Miralax more(yikes) and brought me here. So where do I start in getting her off the Miralax? Do I need to slowly wean her off while introducing new supplements? I'm overwhelmed in where/how to begin. She is currently on 1.5 tsp twice a day which I'm pretty sure we can go down to 1 tsp twice a day with no issues. At one point we were down to only 1 tsp/once a day when she was on a good liquid multivitamin (Natrol) so I think I definitely need to get her back on that. She gets ground up flaxseeds almost every day. Loves yogurt. Drinking is tough for her, especially plain water. Doesn't like raw veggies much. We've tried various probiotics, some of which made her constipation worse. Same with the digestive enzyme we tried (Kidzyme by Renew Life). We took her in for allergy testing got no positive results there. Tried aloe juice and she got a rash around her mouth and tummy ache. No apparent impact on the constipation. Also tried a hazelwood necklace which didn't seem to make much difference. I'm so frustrated with this whole thing. It was prescribed for her over the phone by a doctor we had never even met after she passed a 3" wide stool that was stuck. No exam or questions. They said she'd only have to be on it 4-6 weeks. When we tried to wean her immediately constipation got worse. Then they told me 4-6 months. Close to the end of that time she had diarrhea so we stopped giving it to her for a few days and then we were back to huge stools getting stuck. So then we were referred to the constipation clinic at Childrens Hospital who just said keep doing the miralax and do ex-lax/senna if she only passes small stools two days in a row. Also to sit on toilet after each meal. No other plan as of yet for getting her off the Miralax! Any pointers on where to start would be great. Thanks! Guest guest
Wow. I can understand why you'd be overwhelmed.I started giving my daughter Activia yogurt, and still do, to keep her regular. Although initially, I eliminated all dairy from her diet, she does on occasion enjoy ice cream and cheese now. She can still become easily constipated, but I keep it under control by giving her 3 instead of 2 vitamin C gummies, and pushing water (she rarely drinks anything else, some lactose free chocolate milk now). If she goes more than 2 days w/o a BM, I give her a Fleet's enema - the glycerine kind. This has not occurred since I first took her off the Miralax, though. It may take more than 10 days to see a difference in your DD's situation. Look in the Files section for helpful ideas. Guest guest
Hi Sara,I'm glad you found us and are being proactive before your children suffer more damage. First of all, I would suggest a new doctor who is will meet with you, work with you and discuss options with you. Given your circumstances, I can see where time is a factor, but hold your ground for your children. But to answer your question directly about what to do to get them off Miralax, this is what we did:1. Get off Miralax, cold turkey. Docs will tell you to wean. We didn't and had no problems. 2. Introduce high doses of the stool loosener of your choice. Choices include: magnesium (supplements, Nature Calm/Kids Calm, epsom salts/baths), probiotics (you have to find the right one...if what you tried made her more constipated, it was wrong. We use acidophilus and bifdobaceterium bifidum made my Klaire Labs, PlumSmart plum juice (tastes like kool-aid, buy it in the juice section of your grocery store), Juice Plus+ gummies (www.healthwithsusan.com), depending on your financial situation find a holistic nutritionist in your area (where are you located?) who can assess your children's food (NOT a regular nutritionist - they are very different), senna or DGL (careful, not long-term!), spoonfuls of olive or coconut oil and lots of tummy massages (rub their stomach in the same direction as their intestines: clockwise). 3. Arm yourself with research on why you do not want to do Miralax if you want, or just go to the doctor and when they Rx Miralax, tell them no. Hold your ground. No explanation needed. You may have to go to a few before one will accept you! 4. Patience and love. None of these are quick fixes...although the higher the dose of supplement, the faster the result. When you get TRUE lose stools, back off a little til you get what you want. That reminds me, I doubt your daughter had diarrhea at the end of the 4-6 month Miralax trial. She probably had encopresis, a common side-effect of Miralax. This is when the stool gets hard and not passed, but the watery, loose stools ooze out around it. It looks and smells like diarrhea, but it's not as her bowels were probably not getting completely emptied. That should do it. Check the files (like everyone else said) for more ideas. Good luck. Guest guest
I did what Tracie did for my dd. Calcium Magnesium, Klaire probiotics, etc. We also love Plum Smart Plum Juice(it's in the prune juice aisle at the grocery store. Cold turkey worked fine for my dd. Begin these therapies in place of the Miralax.. HTH, Yvette Re: New here Hi Sara, I'm glad you found us and are being proactive before your children suffer more damage. Also tried a hazelwood necklace which didn't seem to make much difference.I'm so frustrated with this whole thing. Thanks!
