Hi Bennie~Welcome. i had a discogram last spring and

they told me that my condition is inoperable because

so many discs are involved. so I take pain meds, use a

tens unit and heating pad and keep hoping that someday

there will be something to help me. I was also left

with nerve damage in both legs which makes them very

weak~just lovely to fall all the ime!! Anyway, you are

certainly not alone here~this is a great group. I was

a nurse before all this happened~in fact that is how I

got hurt~lots of medical people with severe back

problems. Take care `looking foward to hearing more

from you. Jan

Hi Bennie,

Welcome to the group. You mentioned going to a Dr. in Houston. I live in a

suburb of Dallas named Garland. If you ever come up this way, email me and we

can have coffee and visit.

HI!! Janice,

I read your post and I had to reply. I am about in the same condition

that you are in. My discs and verterbrae are so messed up...out of

alignment vertabrae are pinching nerves and reeking havoc on the nearby

nerves, and disks have little tears in them and are leaking fluid.

All this shows up very well on MRI and Cat Scan/Discograms. Which is

all well and good, but way to much to be treatable with surgery, etc.

So, as you do, I sit here at home, take my pain meds and use my

Tens/NMES units. I am fortunate that these methods pretty much keep

things under control. I am also fortunate to have gotten onto Social

Security disability.

The one thing that keeps me going is the hope that in the future things

wil be better. I pray each night for help and guidance. I think HOPE is

the most important thing that we all should have. There is always

another tomorrow. Let it be better then today. t.

You are so right. I worked in the medical field lifting all those

patients then I decided I loved gardening so much, I would work at Home

Depot Garden center. Well, you guessed it I hurt my back lifting 60

pounds of rock for a man who had just had spinal surgery and we

couldn't find the lot loader and the man was sweating and looking pale,

so me and another girl loaded the river rock.......

I had some " sciatica " in the past but this injury did me in. I had a

three level fusion which is contrevorsial but I thought and got second

opinions from and orthopedic surgeon, nuerosurgeon, and pain

specialist. I cannot qualify for disc replacement even though they do

it in Germany.

I think I would have been OK but I had an auto accident in Jan (a guy

with no insurance pulled out in front of me), totaled my car, left me

with contusions, bruising (extensive), hematomas. I was glad I didn't

break anything but the lap belt part made my lumber area feel like it

had a whiplash. So my back felt OK, I now have constant pain in my SI

joint so I am finally going to have a myelogram by an orthopedic surgeon

next week. He thinks my screws in the hardware in my back might have

gotten " torqued " . So with me luck!

Thanks for the support & welcome

I actually live in Round Rock but do come through Dallas on the way to

my Dad's in Paris Texas. I grew up in the metroplex but when my

husband & I left the military, he got a job in Austin. I worked at

Parkland and Mesquite.

You are lucky to have the Texas Back Institute! I finally got in to a

good orthopedic surgeon for my DDD follow up care. A neurosurgeon

actually did my spinal fusion (three level) I was going for a

neurotransmitter we decided I needed the " functionality " of a stable

spine and then could have the neuro transmitter later. I am so

mad that I had an auto accident after my surgery, that added insult to

injury and a different pain.

Another challenge. Good Luck on you follow up...............Let me

know how it works for you and I will tell you how this appointment goes.

I have lumbar myelogram in a week. I have to wait until my spider bite

(HOLE) heals.

~ Sorry to hear about your condition but, I

totally understand how you feel. If I was an elderly

person maybe it wouldn't bother me so much~but I am

still young and want to do things and it is very

frustrating!

Do you feel that way~as if you are being cheated out of your life!? I will

eventually apply for SSDI , at this point things are still being covered by

wkmns comp ~but that won't last forever!

Funny thing is my family is in more denial about the situation

than me!! THey keep talking as if I will get back to

work~but, I truly doubt it.

Well take care and let me know how you are doing from

time to time. Jan

Thank you for your message. I have been on SSDI now going on two

years. I have had time to evaluate and constantly reevaluate my

situation. I have given up on that. There is nothing to evaluate.

What is is. Waste of time to think that much about it.

What I try to do is spend my time on more benifical things. I have

made some computer friends. I have found a way to keep my Tens/NMES

supplies budget under control. I have found other things. The point

is, I guess, that rather then thinking about the past I am living in

the present and trying to make the most of it. Hopefully, that will

help to make the future a better place for me. Peace. T.

I agree with all. I am trying as hard as I can to stay functional but

it is the biggest challenge I have every had. I retired from the

reserves after 26 years and I am so thankful I made it over 20.

Luckily, they kept me on profile until they knew for sure I couldn't

physically perform. So all that time I was mad at my doctors for not

finding out was wrong with me bought me time to retire with benefits

(when I reach 60).

I have met others in their 20's & 30's and my heart goes out to them,

dealing with the same pain. The support from groups really help. I can

e-mail you guys and am not burdening or worrying my family who do not

understand but are supportive. It is sad I cannot go to the show & sit

a long time: but we rent movies & have popcorn. I cannot garden in

the Yard like I love: but I put pots of color out there: I try to make

home my outside and being able to write to you guys help.

Everyone have a good holidays and thank you for all the warm welcome.

My recluse " bite " (hole) is healing and I go for my lumbar myelogram

Tuesday to see if they can find what is bothering my SI

joint...............Wish me luck! Low pain days to all.
