I have been reading more and more posts about " being afraid to take

meds " or " being embarressed "

I have NEVER been embarressed or afraid to take the meds that my PM

has rx'ed for me. He knows what he is doing and i feel very

comfortable with him and his knowlege about CP. Who cares what family

thinks about you taking meds? Are they in CP? Are they the ones up at

night walking the hallway because they are in too much pain to sleep?

Are they the ones that cry all the time?

If you feel like you can't tell family what you are taking then

DON'T. But never be afraid or embarressed about what you are taking!!

It's none of their business.

Do you really want to be in pain because of what others " think " of

you? Care enough about yourself to be as pain free as possible, its

your body, do what YOU want!

Why would you NOT take a med that your Dr has rx'ed for you just

because it has a " stigma? " Obviously your Dr knows what he is doing,

or are you not confident in your Dr.? I know that with my CP (3 level

torn disks in my neck) i would try ANYTHING my Dr. thought would work

for me. I could care less if the med was a " stigma " i want to be in

the least amount of pain as possible. Once again my pain and my meds

are MY business!

Okay my min " vent is over.

that is a very good point and that's why I am at this point of just

leaping out there and trusting my doctor. I've had several that I did

not trust and they did nothing but lie to me basically that this shot

or this treatment or whatever would work and it never did. I read

news articles about doctors that scare me but my doctor has never

really given me any reason to doubt him so I plan to just go in there

tomorrow and do what he suggests. Thanks for your input.

Raised by a narcotics police officer put some of the fear in my head I

guess. He would not approve of me taking any meds so I don't tell him

or my mom because I just don't want to hear it. He doesn't understand

considering he's never had any surgery or anything painful in his

life. He didn't even want my mom to take pain pills after a recent

surgery. I was horrified that he said that and made sure she took

something. He wouldn't let me take them after my wisdom teeth were

pulled as a teen either so it was just the way I was raised but I am a

grown adult and have to make my own decisions but I still choose not

to share it with my family. Thanks everyone for being a surrogate

family that actually understands.

As an addition and in agreement with I think that the fewer who know what

meds we are on, the better, Not only does it reduce the embarassment if somone

wants to sit in judgment of what you are taking or are not taking, but it

reduces the number of ppl who know what you are taking and may want to hit you

in the head for the meds, or find your stash, ot trash your house or any of the

other things which disrupt our medication and health.

I hope as few ppl as possible know what I take, where I keep it and where I

live, with the exceptions of members of my support groups, who are truly support

members that is.
