Guest guest
I did not breast feed, my milk never came in. It has been 13 months and I am still wait so I guess it is not coming. But the doctors did tell me when my daughter was that young to wake her up ever two hours and feed her. My daughter was small and they wanted to make sure she gained weight, so I would give her between two and 4 oz every two hours. I would actually set my alarm to wake up. Maybe she should try feeding her more often like I had to. Good luck and keep us posted. Sue Breastfeeding tips Hi, my little neice is now 2 weeks old and has not put on any weight. my sister is counting every wet and dirty nappy. Baby Moya likes to kick and play about before finally latching on properly. Does anyone know of any tips that may be able to help her settle down and get feeding and hopefully get some rolls of fat on her little legs. thanks Emma (Aunt to Baby Moya DS and mother of 3) ________________________________________________________________________________\ ____ Never miss a thing. Guest guest
Hi Emma, It took a month to gain weight. He actually lost 14 oz. I did have to wake him every hour to nurse him. Your sister has to make sure your niece is not just getting the nipple in her mouth she need to get the whole breast as well to get a good latch. Another tip for mom make sure she is drinking PLENTY of water this helps with the let down of her milk. And make sure she is drinking a large class of water when she sits down to nurse her. I learned all of this from my sister in law when I had my first . Not enough fluids NO MILK. I hope this helps. mom to 12, 10, 7 and 4 mDs From: MosaicDS [mailto:MosaicDS ] On Behalf Of emma_haller Sent: Friday, February 01, 2008 10:12 AM To: MosaicDS Subject: Breastfeeding tips Hi, my little neice is now 2 weeks old and has not put on any weight. my sister is counting every wet and dirty nappy. Guest guest
Emma, I had PLENTY of milk, but with Aidan's slightly low muscle tone, jaundice, etc. I think he just couldn't get a good grip. The nurse suggested a nipple shield (sorry to all you men reading these oh-so-descriptive posts! lol) and it was a lot easier for him to get a good latch. With some babies you have to wean them off the shield or they'll only want to nurse with it, but Aidan never had a preference for nipples (bottle nipples, not other peoples!), or pacifiers so he didn't really care once he got stronger and I took the shield away. He did just fine once he got the hang of it. Hope that helps! Guest guest
Thanks Kim, I actually read it before but at this stage I have read so much I need to go over it all as it becomes more relevant in little Moya’s life. Thank you so much for all your help, I have passed all the info on. Guest guest
A friend of mine has a little boy with DS. He never could quite get the latching on quite right, so she pumped and gave him breast milk in a bottle. I know that's a lot of extra work, but she was really adamant that he receive the breast milk because the benefits are so profound. I believe she did it for at least a year. I remember her telling me that she and her husband bought a freezer for the specific purpose of freezing her milk, because you can freeze it for up to a year and it will still be good. A. Guest guest
I pumped for Dalton as well. He would never latch on either. He was having his AVSD surgery at 3 months old and I knew my milk was the best for him!! I pumped for 9 months and he got my milk for almost his whole 1st year. Yes, it got old, pumping and feeding him on top of it, but very much well worth his health!!
