Our Mission

Biomarker Study

The mission of The Center is to advance the understanding of childhood development through clinical care, research, and education.

In working toward our mission, we are making progress in understanding and treating developmental disorders. Participation in our research studies helps make this progress possible.

Study Opportunity: Bone Density in Boys Diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder: A Case-Control Study

Children with an autism spectrum disorder (ASD) may experience growth problems or other medical complications due to poor nutrition. Erratic eating behaviors that limit certain foods may cause nutrient deficiencies that compromise dietary intake, cause nutritional depletion, and may affect bone health. The bone density study is assessing bone mineral density status for boys diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) compared with healthy controls.

We are currently enrolling boys with autism ages 4-8 years, and age- and sex-matched controls who are healthy and do not have autism. You do not need to be a patient of The Center in order to participate in our research studies, although the study will require one visit to our center. All research-related procedures will be provided to the participants without cost and will include measurement of nutritional blood biomarkers, assessment of nutrient status, standardized ASD diagnostic assessments and bone density scanning. Compensation for participation is available.

We are so grateful to the families that participate in our studies.
