Guest guest
I believe that is what saved my mother's life. She had some pressure in her chest, woke up about 2 and took an aspirin and smoked a cigarette, she went back to bed, and again woke up at 4:30 with this same pain, and took another aspirin and got dressed and waited for her doctors office to open up. Did I mention my mother is stubborn? AS she was waiting for the office to open up she of course had to smoke a couple more cigarettes. She went to the dr's office and she had to wait for 2 hours until the dr could see her, she was a drop in. They hooked her up to an EKG and saw her heart was doing funky things. And she was allowed to come home and pick up some things, send me an e-mail (I live 350 miles away) and go to the hospital. When I finally tracked her down, she was in the middle of a heart attack, but feeling no pain. It did minimal damage, and she ended up having triple bypass surgery. My mom believes in aspirin, and not tylenol, advil, but aspirin, I truly believe aspirin saved her life. Also, my mom quit smoking while in the hospital. She has been smoke free 1 year come October 22. lily --- Susie wrote: > Sharon wrote: > > << I would ask your dr. it might not release it fast > enough to prevent a > heart attack. For years, research studies focused only on males; research now shows that females' symptoms present frequently as abdominal or back pain. The AHA - American Heart Association will have new literature out shortly that should reflect this info. Guest guest
That's quite a story, Lily! My hat's off to your mother for quitting smoking. Female diabetics often don't exhibit classic heart attack symptoms such as chest pain and pressure. It's not uncommon for us to be sent home from the ER, told we have " indigestion.
