As for helmet manufacturers, I do not know of any as I was rx the doc band. Only licensed ctrs are authorized to make a doc band. I think their are some copycat ones out there. Are you indeed going to have to pay for the helmet or band out of pocket? Who did you speak with at Cranial Therapies- or ? is the orthotist, maybe you could explain your situation to him. If you went to one of their recommended dr's would you have to pay for that appt out of pocket? What ins did you say again that you will have? Abby's peds neurologist is Dr. Brody. He is actually on CT's website, but we found him thru our insurance. He was the first referral we got! We didn't have to " find " the right dr to believe our concerns about untreated plagio. He actually also works out of Talbert Medical at 9940 Talbert, Ftn Valley his number is 714.964.6229. We see him at our dr's ofc in Long Beach. Best wishes! Guest guest
-- We went to a neurosurgeon; J. Gordon McComb at Children's Hospital of Los Angeles. (323) 663-8128. He also has an office in Pasadena. Since time is of the essence, it might be worth going outside of Kaiser's network for a simple consultation. Talking to at Cranial Therapies is a good idea (yeah Kimry!) too. Cedars Sinai has a little info on their website about their helmet program. Children's hospital in Orange County might have a helmet program, although I didn't find anything on their website. I had to really lean on my (former) pediatrician to get a referral to a specialist. (He brushed us off every month when we asked about Will's head.) Finally I snapped and said that with him or without him I was getting the name of somebody. McComb is one of the best and he was very nice about seeing us quickly. I can't speak highly enough about him. Kimry's doctor sounds good too!!! It takes about 2 weeks to get a headband after the casting is done, just so you know. Good luck with your search!!! Guest guest
Kimry: Just a quick note and I'll write more later, thanks for your input on the band. My daughter Casey has come down with a terrible sore throat and fever, I've been caring for her the last two days. As soon as things calm down, I will write back to to tell you what is going on. I'll say a little prayer for both of you. I hope you both can get some rest, fevers always freak me out. If she is unable to keep down any fever reducers (I have one kid that barfs with the slightest fever) consider suppositories for fevers. I' look for your update! Guest guest
Kimry: Thanks for the kind words! Casey is feeling a little better. We went to the doctor yesterday and we got antibiotics. They think she caught the flu virus somewhere. I hope she gets better soon. She has sore sore throat, fever, congestion, runny nose, cough...it's so sad. It breaks my heart. We're probably just going to go with the helmet since we already have appts lined up and Cranial in Burbank never got back to us. At any rate, I just want her to feel better before we begin helmet therapy. I'll write again soon. I'm going to give Cranial one more try to see if there is any chance of the DOC band. We're getting casted for the helmet on Th 6/8 and pick it up on 6/16...gosh so much happening. Talk to you later! Jen
Guest guest
Jen- Cranial Therapies is closed on Monday, I hope you get a call back! I am bummed if they miss the opportunity to talk to you! How exciting that you have your appts all set! That is great! Beverly Hills, right? I could make ton of 90210 jokes, but I'm sure I would get picked on for watching that show;)! I was in Huntington Beach yesterday, close to you guys! Our first 3 daughters were born in Ftn Valley, good city;)! Kimry

We watched it since collage. He always works afternoons so he would have me tape it and call me at break to fill him in. Guest guest
Kimry: Hi, thanks for the reply. Yeah, we'll be going through Beverly Hills Prosthetics Orthotics. We were referred by Kaiser Permanente our insurance provider. The casting is tomorrow 6/8 and we pick up the helmet on 6/16. I'm a little dissappointed about not holding out for the band, but I believe it's just important to be getting help. Casey's head hasn't gotten much worse, but it's still flat and lop sided looking from the top. When you look at her straight on, the sides appear to bulge out a little. I'm really going to miss kissing her little head. Once we get started with the helmet, I'll be looking forward to bathtime so that I can see her entire little face. Next time you venture down towards Fountain Valley and have time, let me know. I'd love to meet a fellow plagio member. Also you can see Casey's helmet (once she gets it). I think it's great to see other devices. Now that I'm all up to date on this plagio stuff, I'm starting to notice, there are many babies out there with bands on. Take Care, Jen
