Guest guest
Hi When I still had six children at home, I became very much into label reading. I soon learned over time, that the substitutes for sugar, fat, and the like, were sometimes as bad as, if not worse than those things. Most of the no-fat, or no sugar things I've found, if I read closely enough, have upped thye sodium content severely, or substituted that infamous sugar substitute that we know we're not supposed to have either, as thyroid patients. I've got to admit that, even though I eat a low-fat diet, I do love sweets and carbs. I've just learned to make an appropriate time and place for them, like once a week or so, and I sometimes, though rarely, binge out on them. I always feel bad when I do, to add to everything else. Of course, I know better, but just can't seem to resist at the time. It seems that almost everything we eat, it's darned if you do and darned if you don't. marin@... Guest guest
Personally, I've come to the conclusion that we are having more health side effects from the 'fake' stuff that we're being fed than the 'bad' stuff.... I'd rather have butter than fake butter.. my body knows what to do with it... I'd rather have real sugar that a fake sweetner... my body knows what to do with it.. no weird confusions or body flushings needed... ....and so much of the fake stuff doesn't have any type of nutritional value.. unless it's got a bunch of added chemicals.. and that's just that much more stuff that our bodies have to sort out and convert into something that is usable.... Guest guest
If you stop and think about it... having a binge a couple of times a month on something that you really adore.. if it keeps you from eating it the rest of the time.. has still got to be WAY healthier for you right? Kinda like the concept of the ME time stuff... if you know that next week is your 'chow an cake day' you can resist the cake the week in between 'cause you get to have it next week without guilt.. At least that concept works for me..... I make my own baked goodies and have started doing cup cakes that are made with milk and eggs and are really rich and yummy... so I don't need any icing.. I can have one of those and curb the sweet tooth... knowing that the ingredients are all 'pure' and that it's got good protein in from the milk and eggs.. but really tasty without the extra icing.... Just grab one out of the freezer and I'm good to go! Topper () On Wed, 30 Apr 2003 01:33:44 -0500 " " writes: Hi When I still had six children at home, I became very much into label reading. Guest guest
I've actually gotten used to having peanut butter sandwiches without butter and not a ton of peanut butter... I think part of it is that I bake my own bread and it tastes better.. I don't to pile stuff on to make it taste good and be filling.... Remember.. we just got another in the group.. time to start calling me Topper or ThyroGeek so we don't get all confused! hehehehehe Topper () aka ThyroGeek group co-owner http://groups.yahoo.com/group/The_Thyroid_Support_Group/http://toppertwo.tripod.com On Wed, 30 Apr 2003 09:50:08 -0400 (EDT) gloria benoit writes: I agree with you ....my doctor told me that real butter is better for you than anything else....all you have to do is learn to use it in moderation...like peanut butter for a sandwich use only about a tablespoon, ect. Guest guest
I eat buter. But if I had a choleterol problem I would cut down or out the butter. I was afraidof fate free bologna, becaue I thin they might put platic inteh bologna. But people younger than me are geting their aertires cleaned outin cath labs. Theon guy sdid used to eat alami an sstuf that I never could do becaue I could SEEth fat. I jsut eat stuf wheere I can cut the fat off. it is not "added" liie lalami. HE ate these Italian subs that are called "regulars" lieik they were nutrtious. If youare staving they are, but theyhave that poison inthem. Fat is poison. I also eat sugar. I haVE EATEN THE FAT FREE DOGS AN BOLOGNA ND FIND I get sick of it after 2 slices. So that is the end of that. I just eat lean meat now. I need the iron so fish is not the way to go for me. Itis just as easy to leve thfat and give it to the dog than to eat the stuff. I do't need bacon that bad, either to risk my life that is wat itis . Bacon is really bad for you. that fat, unless youare too thin is not great at all. Once twice a year if you crave it, I guess. I mean ya gotta enjoy somethng in life. I 'll tell ya what, if sombody is cooking it, it smells good. If I dont smell, it I dont cracve it. If I put garlic on a lean porterhouse steak, cut off the obvious fat, I'm good. And every body attacks my food so my cooking must be ok. It has got to be lean up to the high 90%'s of lean-ness and I can't see that it's that bad or extreme.. I drink whole milk, eat sour cream and eggs. I don't eat a whole container of sour cream in 1 sittting, but I don' t "X" it out. But my cholesterol is ok right now. Also I do['t eat a whold pond of butter in a sitting, either. Land o' lakes margarine is not bad, btww, and it lasts longer in the fridge than butter. I know it's veggy oil ... -sue d. Guest guest
There is very nasty stuff in our regular food. Even bugs. Yuck. I just don't like open heart surgery, either. I don't eat fake stuff. I just eat lean stuff. Does that make sense? The less bacon I eat, the less I want it. If had to choose between inorganic meat fat and a chiemical, I might choose the chemical. Meat is shot up with hormones and anitbiiotics, and the beasts are fed insteticides and you and you name it. Ya know? Nobody has to eat fake anything. Just not eat the part of the animal that stores extra hormones, toxins and clogs you. The FAT. It is really simple. Eat organic and no fat (low fat). "Natural" does not make something "safe". Arsenic is "natural" and so are the"twisters" in Oklahoma. I don't think that mercury or chlorine are from outer space, either. On the other hand, chlorine sure beats "cholera". Fat won't kill you right away. But too much of anything will kill you. I ain't drinking chlorine today, ya know? That is why we have brains. There is "no blanket answer." We do have to use our brains. -sue d. ROBERT LECK wrote: I fully agree that the fake stuff is bad and I will only buy butter and whole milk...
