I had never heard of a vision therapist! That is news to me! lol I am glad she

can help her and help with development too.

I don't think my kids could point to body parts at 12 months old. But...it has

been a while.

Hopefully we will get more input here. How old were your kids when they could

point to body parts?(Everyone?)

Hi all, the vision therapist just left. She feels that since Isabella

is farsighted in her right eye she is also having trouble with depth and

perception. Here in Pennsylvania or at least the county I live in they will only

allow her to have vision or developmental therapist work with her. They said

that a vision therapist does work on developmental so I went with that. They

also felt she should know a little more than she does. Like she should be able

to point to her eyes, nose, ears, etc. Any thoughts on that? I thought she was

doing really well now I am wondering if I was just kidding myself. She only

turned 1 a week ago. She listens to them so well with me she just wants to beat

me up and pull my hair and have me tickle her. I guess that is normal she knows

she can get away with that with me. They are going to have a speech therapist

evaluate her again in two months to see if her speaking is on track.

The developmental therapist came aftwards because it is going to take a few

weeks to change over. Anyway he looked on his chart and said it has 15 month

for 1 body part and 18 to 2 1/2 years for body parts so now I am not as

concerned.

Thanks

That sounds more accurate to me. I would ask this vision therapist where she got

her information from. I think it is important to always check what ever

therapists tell you when it comes to development because I have heard more than

once when a therapist worried a parent by telling them that their child was not

on task in development and the child was really right at or even above age

level.

Trey who is now 7 (almost 8) didn't point to body parts until he was 18 months

or older. Austin still can't (or won't) but can do " Head Shoulders Knees and

Toes " really well LOL (but won't point to any " one " body part when asked to) BTW

Trey doesn't have MDS just ADHD (that's all, no biggie LOL)

As for my oldest Cameron (16, OCD) I'll have to ask his Mom because I really

don't know when he started doing that. For those of you confused, I'm Cameron's

birth-mom :) (Who BTW wants to meet me next summer!)

Sue - I wouldn't worry too much. My " typical " granddaughter just turned one and

she cannot point to her eyes, ears, nose etc. She just learned to wave bye bye

and she points if she wants something and that is about it. I always felt that

therapist would say Adam didn't know how to do something and I would say " Did

anyone ever show him how to do that? " Then we would show him and work on it and

he would get it eventually. When a baby just turns one, they have a lot of new

things coming at them. I personally wouldn't have even thought of teaching a

child that age where her nose is. Maybe six months from now. I am sure she is

doing really well. As far as her behavior, the first time we observed Adam at

school, I though I was looking at someone elses child. There he was sitting

nicely, following rules, etc. I think they all know they can get away with more

at home.
