Update on my Aspie/HFA husband...

Recently we encountered a good example of the ways others may take advantage of

someone who has AS or HFA...my husband's business partner used Seth's inability

to grasp business matters (he has a problem with papers and tiny numbers/letters

on papers and gets VERY overwhelmed with it) to force my husband into

essentially working for next to zero pay in a situation where he was promised a

50/50 split on the condition that both people would take on 50% of the labor.

This experience has been heartwrenching from my somewhat NT perspective, as I

wanted Seth to have the experience of his own shop and feel more like a

professional (he repairs and builds stringed instruments and it is his savant

skill that makes him exceptional). Now, we are left with a bitter dispute and

working to protect Seth from some serious slander and defamation that happened

because he left silently without confrontation due to his dislike of

confrontation and conflict.

I'm not sure if any other NTs have had spouses get taken advantage of because of

their trouble grasping certain transactions or interactions with others in a

business realm, but suffice it to say that there will be no next time on having

another " partner " work with my husband. Fortunately, the upside of this all, is

that Seth's growing life skills actually showed their teeth in this, and he has

been a beacon of quiet and calm amid the chaos and hatred coming from the other

party. I'm personally impressed with how calm and collected he has been, while

I'm a hot mess and hysterical that anyone would accuse my gentle, unaware

husband of being a liar or a thief or a coward (they even used some hatespeech

in the slander).

I'm sorry I've been a bit offline on the forum and less participatory, but with

this legal drama happening and needing to figure out what the other partner

stole from Seth financially, we're trying to handle this with dignity and care

and my AS/HFA spouse is getting a taste of what happens when people take

advantage of good people who don't understand business matters.
