Guest guest
Hi Dave - Watch out... just because your calculator says 1e-006 when it means 1 divided by 10 to the sixth power doesn't mean that math works that way. e raised to the -6th power is a whole different thing mathematically. Anne p.s. My intent is not to confuse. Maybe I can put it more simply: 1 gram = 1,000 milligrams 1 gram = 1,000,000 micrograms To convert from milligrams to micrograms, just arrange the numbers so the units cancel out. The idea is to multiply by a conversion factor where you know the two items are equal, and we know that 1 million micrograms is the same as 1000 milligrams, because both are equal to 1 gram. So: 3 milligrams x 1,000,000 micrograms 3,000,000 -------------------- = --------- micrograms = 3000 micrograms 1,000 milligrams 1,000 ^ | conversion factor Hope this helps. This is how they taught us to do complicated conversions in my H.S. chemistry class. Just string along conversion factors you know are equal until they cancel out and leave you with the units you want.
