Guest guest
I had something happen at work today that really upset me. We have this one particular Sgt that likes to nitpick all of our calls from the field and will even tell us to cancel them. This morning I had a call holding for a 93 year old elderly woman who called in to say that the staff at the nursing home was abusing her and that she had bruises on her body to prove it. I was told by this sgt to lower the priority AND to call back the establishment and speak with the nurses and ascertain the validity of this accusation. HELLO, these are the people she is accusing of abusing her. Needless to say, I informed my supervisor and she had him call her and she I guess informed him we woul dnot do that. So he had a duty officer do it. The end result? they spoke the the desk nurse who said she was a difficult patient and yes there had been an altercation the previous nite w/2 of the Nurse assistants..but it was entirely because she was trying to fight with them.....a 93 year old woman. So..nothing was done because this sgt decided he was god and took it upon himself to discount this elderly lady as nuts. Sorry this is so long...but i had to get it off my chest. My opinions only..and definitly not those of my employer Eva
Guest guest
Hi all, Thanks for the support. What I ended up doing was calling our detective who works in elder abuse (we have a fairly new division doing this), he was as outraged and me and assured me he would be investigating it..as well as notifying the state agency that oversees these complaints. I just wonder how many of these little old people fall through the cracks because people write them off as crazy simply because they are fortunate (or maybe unfortunate) enough to have lived such a long life . Only my opinions..not those of my agency..which at this point I prefer not to state..umm for obvious reasons Eva
