Guest guest
Rick - To paraphrase a famous poet " a carb is a carb " it doesn't matter whether the carbs come from sugar or from grain. You have to count them all. The thing is that carbs which come from grain tend to be more complex, and will be slower to metabolize. Actually, most breakfast cereals have 20-25 carbs per serving, it's just the serving size that differs wildly. I believe one serving of rice krispies is 1.25 cups, but it doesn't satisfy me as well as one cup of cheerios, which have the same number of carbs. Go figure. in Cincinnati << Serving Size = 1/2 cup; Calories = 60; Total Carbs = 24g; Dietary Fiber = 13g; Soluble Fiber = 1g; Sugars = 0g; Other Carbohydrates = 11g; I know by now that this is a lot of carbs for just 1/2 cup of anything, but are the carbs in Fiber One alright to eat since there aren't any sugars? Any advise would be appreciated. Thanks, Rick >>

However for me it would be a matter of looking at my total intake for the day and for the meal as to whether this was too much. A long time ago I gave up trying to run by formula or strict rules - it would have driven me potty!! (Well may be it did anyway, eh?) I now look at my day as a whole and each meal as a challenge to keep carb intake to a minimum. Sometimes I indulge a little, but then balance it out in the overall picture. So far this has worked fine for me and my bg's are staying right where I want them. (And, BTW, I have now lost 34 lbs since March!) This seems a much easier approach to diet intake control than many of the " programs " I have tried to read. It goes back to some of the discussion of meters and their importance. Without my meter I couldn't hope to know what affects me or what latitude I have in intake. For a while there I was going through my test strips like there was no tomorrow. It was worth it though, for I now know what sets my bgs racing skywards. Everyone is different - the principle can be the same, but the practice is different. You have to work it out for yourself. My AccuSoft Advantage meter is my best friend. I couldn't hope to take control of my diabetes without it. Warm regards to you all - this list is a godsend, even though I spend most of my time lurking (and often chuckling) - but most of all feeling the warmth of communion from the sharing. Let's not get too anal, though! :-) (-: T2, d,e 3/99 >> - Thanks for the wise words, and congrats on the weight loss! That will go a long way in controlling this beast we call diabetes! in Cincinnati

In your example, I would count the carbs as 11 or less than one exchange. Bob -- Bob Litty rdlitty@... littyrd@...

Guest guest
Meenie, Those " other carbs " are the 11 left after you subtract the dietary fibre.
