Really? What is the reasoning on that? That is news to me. Alot say they get

relief from a few beers. Just wondering!

Maybe because it dulls the senses, that's why IM sit-in here sipping on a

glass of Riesling! And I want to dull everything for at least an hour. I

haven't drank in years!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! but when I did it was only 1 or 2 Max!

every now and then, but I always made sure it was a " Good " bottle of wine I

bought, so I went and got me a bottle of St. Resiling my favorite,

when I could ride a bike (when we lived in Seattle) I used to ride there with

my husband to that Winery. All I know is, IM enjoying the hell out of it

right at this moment, cant breath, cant eat, cant swallow, cant see, so might

as well sip some wine.

Dawn,

I do not blame you for wanting to have a couple in your situation!

But a word of caution based on my own experience, we with chiari need to

remember that alcohol affects the same part of our brain that our chiari does.

If you notice alot of people talk about feeling drunk when they haven't even had

a drink, for myself alcohol really exagerates my symptoms. I can have two drinks

and blackout where someone without chiari can have ten and be fine.

This is just how MY body reacts, not saying don't drink, just saying be careful.

I am sure that many can drink and not have the problem I do.

Dear Dawn,

It is not just pain that alchohol helps. For those of us with S/M twitches

(muscle spasms), that always set in late at night, just when you are ready

for sleep, then a good Cab Sav does the trick.Shiraz is fine too, though I

really enjoy a Gewerztraminer, prefably from Alsace.

..75 of a bottle of decent quality is enough, however a full bottle I the

Chiari symptons get a bit much.(gently staggering to bed tee hee)

White wine does not work quite as well as red, beer works less than any wine

and Gin/Tonic keeps twitching all night long.

The alternative seems to be sleeping tabs and thats probably worse than

drinking.

How many S/M twitchers are there out there.

Regards

from Manchester the one in UK not NH

PS riding a bicycle is a great way to get back, whether its otside or indoors

on the turbo with the computer, pulse monitor and the Eagles blasting " Take

it Easy "

randi I have to laugh to your genuine concern(thankyou), but IM talking

1(ONE) glass of wine in 5 YEARS!, OK, I am the most anti-everything person

you will probably ever meet, I take less medication than probably 75% of our

own members, and drink Carrot juice and protein shakes, but I definitely

think if alcohol or even Pot! helps people once in a while then go for it. I

do realize you mean well OK, just struck me funny, cause you don't know me

and IM the biggest Woos! that ever lived, when it comes to anything alcoholic

or Narcotic or otherwise and I live with Massive! Pain from my ACM and SM.

and SC, but I do live with it. Just wanted to let you know. Peace

Dawn (drunk on life,ha,ha,ha,ha)

Odd isn't it how we all differ in how we react. I also have increased tone

which manifests itself both in severe spasms and the exasperating twitches.

Aside from baclofen, which I take 40-60mg a couple of hours before bed

when I do choose to have a drink (and I have to admit it is not that

common) I usually choose a nice wine or a rum and coke. I occasionally

will open the Bushmills with Mark just to be sociable (but I am not yet

used to the taste of Irish whiskey). I get sick with vodka, but anything

with rum in it I can drink till the cows come home. It tends to calm the

twitches down, but of course I never combine the two therapies...if I take

the drink, I lay off the pills and vice versa.

I guess everyone has to find there own way of dealing with things.

Hang in there everyone

Well that kinda sucks all the fun out of it, don'cha think? Where's your

sense of adventure, Dar?

btw - None of that wine and fancy drugs for me. I guess I'm not as

sophisticated as the rest of you (if you haven't figured that out yet). I'm

perfectly content with a case of beer and a bag o' pot. And some

anti-depressants just for a lark.

bt other w - WACMA certainly DOES NOT condone these actions under any

circumstances!!!! This sort of relaxation is not recommended whatsoever

(said the bloody hypocrate).

Use a little pot, OR a little alcohol, OR your doctor's prescribed meds

taken as directed, whatever works best to help alleviate your symptoms,

but, as Darlene says, not all of the above :-)

oh scott (shivers ) ....do you think those tiny ones with purple gills (and

bruse purple when i cut em up) , will do the same thing ( maybe even without

the stomache upsets ??)

i found bunches on the golf course last week, and the kids have all be

running around town with huge grins on their faces.... ever since they talked

me out of using em in the quiche , they did say they had something better in

mind for em !!

could that be why they made me tear the closet apart for the litmus paper ??

by the way , i cant find my wild patch of ginsing now either , do you think

it grows in these western piney forests ??

Here in the hills we don't have the opportunity to go to the doctor and get

medicine like you'all in the cities. I never was one to smoke so that

leaves out any of them left-handed ciggeretts, but I have found some of

them little brown mushrooms out back makes me feel real happy. Sometimes I

am a king and somtimes I am dragon and sometimes an eagle. But they sure do

make your belly hurt, and as big as I am that is a lot of pain :-)

Here in the hills not really eating mushrooms,

Hillbilly

Hi ,

How are ya feeling? We had our surgeries at around the same time, just want to

compare notes. I am having some headaches and panic stuff, which is more due to

my goofy family than chiari, but I do remind myself every day how bad it was pre

surgery so I don't get too caught up in being upset over not feelin ALL BETTER

now.

I've been thinkin about ya and just wanted to wish you well!!!

Careful with those mushrooms, now! :} lol

Love,

Randi

Hi Everybody,

How are you?

, I want to know that too. News to

me too......and my doctors do know that

I go out and drink....they are not Fly

by Night doctors either. lol Personally,

I would think, off the top of my head,

that the only people that Alcohol would

be Ill Advised for would be Alcoholics.

I am sure there is more though.

Take Care,

Brande
