Guest guest
Dear Nowhawk I know what you mean. The mind tend to skip the proccess and reach the " buttom line " (the turn around) I have a question to you: What happens to you, has you get to the Turn Arounds, faster than you should " ? Do you feel relief? Cause there is no right way to do the work. I have no advice to offer you Sorry, T -- how not to feel drowned by the turnaround Hello everybody, I'm Nowhawk. Thank you for the information in this group. I have a questions. Since a few mounths, I have been doing the work quite frequently. Now it goses smoother. However, when I sit to write down a worksheet, I have a difficulty. As soon as a thought coems: " I am angry at... because ... " etc. I censure myself for I see immediately the turnaround. It kind of short circuits the 4 queqtions process. Has anyone an idea to help me become a neginner again? Thank you, Nowhawk.
Guest guest
> Hello, I certainly don't have any answers...AND I too experience my mind " running the show " including running " the work " . I think that is the discussion about " The Wrong Turn " that is in progress at this time with . Some interesting information there. I follow the faciliation sheet that I received in the Round Robin group verbatim and answer all of the questions even when my mind tries to convince me that I can skip this question or I've already answered that question. I also close my eyes a lot, and go into the place that I call my center, a spot between my heart and spine and focus my attention there and just wait. Sometimes an answer will appear and sometimes it won't. In the past, I have attended the 12 step program. From there, I received the information that the mind (ego) is sly I am also doing the work on the Doing-The-Work yahoo group. This gives me witnesses and people who will give me feedback. Blessings on us all, beth > Hello everybody, > > I'm Nowhawk. > Thank you for the information in this group. > > I have a questions. > > Since a few mounths, I have been doing the work quite frequently. > Now it goses smoother. > > However, when I sit to write down a worksheet, I have a difficulty. > As soon as a thought coems: > " I am angry at... because ... Hello Nowhawk, I would suggest going through the entire process anyway, even when your mind tries to short circuit it by jumping in with the turnaround. I have found that my mind does this also. As says, the mind can be tricky and the questions are what educate us as to the effects of our thinking ~ jumping to the turn around does not educate us in anyway or help us to see how our thinking creates the reality we are experiencing. Remember, the work is meditation. Sitting with the answers that arise to all of the questions, as well as FEELING how the turn around is as true or truer shows me how the oppositite polarity of my stressful thought may also be true. This almost never fails to open me up to new possibilities, and shows me how it is always my thinking, rather than my circumstances that cause the pain/stress i experience. Trust the process...dont be fooled by the 'I know mind' that would try to short circuit the process and tell you that you dont need to sit with it, you already know the answer. In my experience, I have always benefited from going with the entire process of inquiry even when my mind has jumped in time and time again with the turn around. I notice it, and carry on with the questions. For me, that is where the peace comes from, and the power of inquiry. Good luck, >
Guest guest
Dear Nowhawk, so, you already have the turnaround. How does it feel? And now, go to question no. 1. And do the work from there, with your original thought. And when you get to the turnaround, notice whether you sense a difference to the former one. Just to notice what difference you can sense between immediate turnaround and the turnaround after investigation. The solution? Give your mind something meatier to deal with. Here is where the latest work in Cognitive psychology can be so helpful and illuminating. A mistaken thought is the cause of your painful feelings so lets explore that in some depth. For example, if I have the stressful thought " I am going to die of cancer. " Just asking is it true or even can I absolutely know that it is true will not take me very far, because a " yes " , " no " or " I don't know " does not explore the nature of the error in the thought. That thought " I am going to die of cancer. " is an example of a cognitive distortion known as fortune telling. It's as if I have a crystal ball in front of me and I can clearly see myself dying of cancer. I believe what I see so this makes me very afraid. Now that I understand the error that I am making, asking " is it true? " brings me back to reality. The truth is that I am not a fortune teller and I have NO way of knowing how I am going to die. Seeing this clearly makes it obvious that the original thought is a lie. The reality is that I have no idea how I am going to die! Dr. Burns identifies ten types of cognitive distortions which cause all our suffering (http://www.feelinggood.com/). If you incorporate an understanding of these distortions into your Inquiry, not only will it give you a deeper understanding of the mental black magic you are caught up in, but it will slow the whole process down so that a deeper state of clarity is reached. One of my dear friend was recently (about a month back) was diagnsoed with stage 2-3 breas cancer. She is about 33 years of age and just had an adorable baby girl. Her breasts are removed and now, according to doctors she has to through chemotherapy (and possibly even worse) for about 2-4 years. She told me that she feels very depressed at times and is looking for a way out. She asked me for suggestions. And, I am asking you. Do you have any? She has no background in " work " , spirituality or psychology. She used to be very cheerful, lively, positive and fun-loving person and her husband is a great guy - very positive and full of energy, optimism and enthusiasm. Allow 'depression' to completely and 'willingly' overtake you. Welcome it with open arms. Expereince it, see it, feel all of it, every bit of it. This is a wonderful opportunity! Whon knows, when again you will get 'depressed'! Who knows when again you will have opportunity to see 'depression' this closely, feel it this intricately!
