Carol,

Im sorry to hear that your not getting rest.It must be something in the air

tonight.I just now got mom down at 1 am Michigan time. She will probably be

ringing the bell at 4 am as usual.I guess I should be sleeping instead of on

this computer but I just wanted to read a little from here and see what Ive

missed out on this afternoon.Good night all hope you all can rest. Ron

over a hot stove to prepare.

She has been very tightly wound for two days now. She can't stay out of

her closets and drawers and wants to auction off her clothing.

They put her back on morphine for the pain, but at half the dose. it

has to be mixed in food, and she is not very anxious to lick a spoon to

I have better luck with pills, at this point.

she wants to take a bath at midnight and then get dressed to go

somewhere.

I set out real clothes, but more sweatpants and shirt so she can go to

bed in them.

You know how when you had small kids and you finally got them to bed,so

you yourself could relax, well, that is not happening here tonight.

She is in the tub, yes she can still get her own bath, and prefers it

that way. Maybe she will settle for pajamas if she calms down in the

tub. I will go in and wash her back and help her out of the tub.

You can get so tired of the arguing, even though you're trying not to

argue, but it's midnight, and the woman needs her beauty rest.

the dog is barking outside, Millie is calling from the bathroom, and we

are fresh out of Calgon. Do they make Calgon anymore?

I hope the blue horse, the beaver or muskrat, and Abe Lincoln visit

somebody tonight. Maybe if I put Millie's dentures under her pillow,

the tooth fairy will come.

So, gotta scoot! Duty calls! At least it isn't doody calling!

Catch you guys in the morning.

Ron,

Millie's motor just wouldn't stop. She took her bath with underwwear

on. She called me to help her and she seemed to be really drowsy.

I was able to get her into her pajamas, vs. clothes she wanted to

wear.

She had taken the dirty dishes into the bathroom with her and they

were on toilet seat. Lid was down!

I got her into bed and she is snoring so loudly that the dog won't

sleep with her.

Her speech was high-pitched and whiney all day today. She seemed to

be worse at getting her words right, and suddenly nothing tastes good

anymore.

So, we " re changing levels here, I think!

she knows I am not working this week, or next, so I am quite certain

she has pushed herself to stay awake so I won't leave.

Of course, now I am wound up from the deal, and I may as well have a

half a xanax as the melatonin is failing me just now.

I don't like Emma's situation today and wonder what wiggle room she

can allow herself to regain some of her independence.

Millie hid her glasses for two days, and so a good deal of this

morning was spent trying to figure out how to get new glasses over

the New Year's holiday. I can't imagine she could be very helpful

during an exam. Picking out new frames would be a total nightmare.

I found the glasses late in the afternoon, and made a mental note of

hiding place number 612.

Millie's paranoia was back parts of the day, and she was rather

argumentative. It was hard to rise above the Millster today.

So, I hope you're already asleep when I post this.

Gosh, i am tired, but am too wound up to sleep!

I'll try counting stuffed lambs, fresh from the dryer.

Good night, Boy...

Good night, Ellen....

Still laughing! I actually do think they still sell Calgon! Hope you finally

got some beauty rest last night.

I think what you might be experiencing is how very sensitive our LOs are. She

knows you are doing a different schedule. And that throws her off too.

Happy New Years and please keep your email coming so I can laugh!

Donna and Emma,

I do not know who is sleeping in Millie's bed right now.

She got up about 30 minutes ago and hit the bathroom.

She stayed so long and I had to go, too, and we have only one

bathroom.

We live on a dirt road, so there is a lot of privacy, and I couldn't

even make it to our house, so I diddled in the yard.

Our weather has been so warm lately that when it rained the other

aforementioned night, it woke up the mosquito larva. I probably have

bites on my butt, even though I was only exposed a short time.

If my bladder even thinks we might pee, the launch sequence has

started. I don't know who'll get the Depends first.

I fixed Millie's breakfast, but she came out of the bathroom looking

very disoriented and scary and headed straight back to bed. Neither

of us got our beauty sleep, that's for sure.

She is limping and seems to have poor balance, and this is brand new.

I went into the bathroom, and it is obvious she didn't pee in the

toilet, but due north of it.

the toilet paper hit the toilet, also new, but alas, the pee did not.

it's time to decide wheather to take her into the hospital to see if

maybe she has suffered a stroke, and or hip injury.

THis could be the start of a very long day.

I responded to two of the ads on craig's list.

I had never heard of that before.

thank you for the links.

we don't get a newspaper, because we live down a dirt road. that is

probably why I didn't know about Craig and his handy list. Also why

we can pee in the yard in an emergency. I didn't need to clean up

more than one small lake this a.m.

if i don't get to post every hour, on the hour, you will know we are

revising our plan of attack.

I know we will get a whole battery of tests if we go in, and they

will rule ut UTI, stroke, or broken hip.

Wish I already had the wheelchair.

No balloons for us.

XOXO,

Carol

Ron,

Emma's grandmother was up at four, and your mom gets up at four, and you both

live in Michigan. Maybe they could have a play date, or go out for tea.

I think I need a play date and some tea.

I was up until almost four, and have no desire to do anything but crawl back

in bed myself.

Just my luck, major pee and poop stories all in the same week.

Do I win?

Carol,

Does Millie have arthritis? It seems odd that she might have a sudden hip break

out of

nowhere if she didn't fall. Maybe her hip is paining her because of that. Or

did you

mention a fall and I missed it? A good sign of stroke would be her eyes. Are

they more

unfocused than usual? Is one pupal different than the other? Does her face

look droopy

on one side? I sure hope its just a UTI and not a stroke or hip break for both

your sake! If

it is a hip break talk to the doctors about a local anesthetic and strong

sedative rather than

general anesthesia if she needs surgery. People with dementia can (and usually

do) take a

drastic downhill dive after general anesthesia so if theres a way around it I'd

say take it.

Thats what we did with grandma after her last hip fracture.

We may be taking grandma in today too. This whole not eating BS is getting out

of

control. Although she did eat one piece of toast at 4am!! YIPPEE!

I spent about 30 minutes last night arguing with my mother about what we should

do if

Grandma is not eating by choice. Grandma did manage to form the words to tell

Bob the

other day that she just wanted to go off and die. Mom doesn't think we should

take her to

the hospital. She doesn't think a feeding tube is a viable option. She thinks

we should get

Grandma into therapy for her depression. The woman can't form even HALF a

sentence

most of the time, what the hell is therapy going to do for her??? Not that I'm

opposed to

all options but lets be realistic here! I agree with the feeding tube thing

only because I've

seen how Grandma acts with an IV and a feeding tube would mean someone would

need

to have eyes on her 24 hours a day. Thats just completely unrealistic (unless

we're talking

about a NH) and it would be a constant argument with her to keep her from

messing with

it and pulling it out. The annoyance that would cause for her AND for us would

be

horrible. OY! No good options here and now that its come down to it it seems

that we are

NOT agreeing to respect Grandma's decision like we all talked about before. Big

shocker.

The angry girl is peaking out today...I hope I can keep her under control. ;-)

Good luck with Millie! Let us know how it goes...

Emma

PS the peeing in the yard thing is hilarious! we live in the middle of a corn

field and since

my boyfriend grew up in the city he occasionally pees in the yard just for the

fun of it!

Those " catchers " for the toilet is called a " hat " (I think because they kinda

look like a top

hat) and they are totally cheap! We got one for free from our GP. They had a

whole stack

of disposable ones. A medical supply place would probably have them or get a

free one

from your doc if you can.

I have used the little " hats " to get urine samples

from my MIL as well. They are most helpful when it's

impossible to get her to pee in that little cup. I

always was able to get both the little cup and the

" hat " from the lab. You shouldn't have to go out and

pay for it!

I wanted to mention, my Orthopedic doc told me that

the hip breaking causes the fall, the fall does not

necessarily cause the hip breaking. Given this fact,

Millie could in fact have a fractured hip, and just

not be bad enough to allow her to still walk on it.

Hope this is not the case, but I sure wouldn't want to

rule anything out without having it checked.

PS. I'm a country girl, who has peed everywhere from

the front yard to the barn! When the urge hits and

there are no witnesses.....

Hip breaks causing the fall, makes perfect sense. Millie has

osteoporosis and has lower back pain typical of stress fractures.

Somebody's mom had surgery a while back for that. Up date?

Hats off to all of us for the new year.

I even saw a gel bed cover on craig's list.

Millie spends so much time in the sack, I am thinking it would be a

great idea. If I put a heated mattress pad underneathe it, it would

help keep her warm without the worries of an electic blanket.

<snip> I never knew about craigs list. There are a lot of neat

things listed locally. I may have found a waterbed to put at

Millie's. I only need a single size, which is good because my room

is about the size of a walk-in closet. I know Millie would love the

waterbed with the heat, it is just she wouldn't be able to get in

and out of it.Hi Carol. <snip>

The other thing you can do on craigslist is list what you want or

need... and if someone has what you're looking for they'll contact

you. Some people list that they will trade something for another

thing. I traded a retro kitchen table w/ chairs for an office chair,

since at the time I was using one of the kitchen chairs at my desk.

I was really addicted to craigslist before our last move - got rid of

lots of stuff that way - feels better than throwing away when someone

picks up something they're actually going to use... A college student

took my grandmother's wing back chairs that were torn up by my lovely

cat and used them as her final project to reupholster - asked that

she email me the final look, but she never did. Maybe she failed?

Here's another craigslist funny: I had listed an old color TV - Free,

but the person would have to pick up. I received an email shortly

there after from a guy telling me all about himself - he accidentally

emailed me instead of the singles posting that is also available on

craigslist. He apologized and still picked up the free TV - we

laughed after he left - couldn't believe he faced us after all he

wrote about himself and his single status... LOL

Of course I totally forgot about using craigslist before the wedding -

I could have gotten a CHEAP wedding dress on there - for something

you wear just once it's crazy how much people spend on a wedding

dress. At least I got mine off the sale rack, but still could have

saved hundreds more by just checking craigslist. Oh well. Could sell

mine on craigslist - if people don't mind donkey smell. LOL. Not

really, don't have the heart to part w/ it just yet... But I will use

craigslist for my upcoming wedding cocktail reception (e.g. find a

student photographer, possible entertainment, possible decorations,

etc.)

I sold my mom's electric medical dispenser on craigslist too - I sold

it at a 1/4 of what I paid for, but it felt good that it went to

someone who needed it... and the best part is that the person comes

to pick it up... and again better than putting out on the curb. In

the city most of what's put out on the curb is taken away anyway, but

some decent stuff isn't taken away and ends up being trash - so it's

good to try and part with the item via craigslist first...

Take care Carol!

in browsing craig's list for something else I saw a gel mattress pad

and now can't find the seller or ad.

I must not be too clever at what I am labelling things.

How did you locate the urine top hats? How would you look up bath

rails?

What category?
