Wow... that's not the way it has ever worked for me. I could lay down...and

after a few minutes be sitting straight up in bed..because the pressure was

so bad in my head I thought it would explode. Oh well. When it comes to

exceptions to the rule I'm usually one. That's interesting though. Is that

the way it is for you? just curious.

That is true for some. It was for me when my headaches were bad (it's a

simple matter of gravity) - but there's a few hundred folks here who may

tend to disagree. I think this doctor is a little out of date. You need to

see someone who is more up to date on the current state of chiari research

- or is at least willing to learn.

Hi Kathy,

Just want you to know that my Chiari headache worsens significantly when I lie

down... have been sleeping at 45 to 90 degree angle from horizontal to avoid

this, for 2 years.

Hi Kathy,

I am pretty new to this chiari thing but I have a 7-8 mm herniation and this

" is " my problem. I am not trying to tell you to go against your husband but you

are the one having these problems and you know your body better than anyone

else. YOU have to make the decision whether or not you want to go to another

nsg, my recommendation is that you do. I personally could not sit with the

first dx that my 1st neuro gave me and that was, " it was all psychological " . I

know I couldn't make these symptoms up in my HEAD that they were there and nsg

just didn't know enough about " CHIARI " so he gaffed it off as a psychological

problem becoz' he has the " I am God " syndrome and couldn't figure it out on his

own!!! If I sound a little crabby about this I am. I have heard from so many

people the same story and it really upsets me that the NSG's can get by with

this sort of thing. You, I and all of us here are PEOPLE and they need to treat

us like PEOPLE. I sure hope that you do go to another nsg that is familiar with

Chiari and I wish you the best of luck. Remember it is your body and you know

it best!!

I would like to say that with my son he is actually in more pain laying

down than he is standing up. He cannot go to sleep without waking up with a

headache, because he has been lying down. Just thought I'd let you know that I

don't think that it is necessarily true about when relief comes. According to

there is no relief.

I'm going to throw a wrench into the doctors theory. If I an in pain

and I lie down, my symptoms do not get better. I do not get relief.

And if I am in pain and my symptoms are kicking my butt, standing will

do no good either. The only way I get relief after I lie down, is when

I have taken my drugs and they are taking effect ;-) lololol

Rick has always felt better sleeping sitting up, in his easy chair. When he

tries to sleep in bed, he usually ends of back in the chair by 2 a.m.

Mine usally get worse too.....BUT that's IF i'm sleeping on a pillow! I've

found that if I lay perfectly flat on the mattress with NO pillow then I can

get to sleep in bed!! Atleast its worth a try...oh and I usually lay my head

on the side that hurts too. And believe me I'm NOT one to sleep on my

stomach but this has worked to atleast to get to sleep!!!!!

Just my 2 cents worth
