Guest guest
I don't post much but since a lot of people that have surgery and have there symptoms resolved probably don't continue to follow the group much I figured I would send a post to tell of my experience with surgery. I'm now 39 and I found out I had tethered cord about 5 years ago after an injury at work. Most of my symptoms were pain in the lower back and shooting pain down my legs. I took many of the usual medications with only moderate relief. I was to the point where my activity level was almost zero because of the pain. About 2 years ago I found a neurosurgeon in my area Dr Oro. After some tests and much deliberation I decided to have surgery. My cord was bifurcated at about L3 and tethered in 2 locations near L5. I had surgery in June of 2009 and after recovering and slowly building up my activity level after about 4 months I got to a point where I could say on many occasions that my pain level was almost zero. I have found that for the 1st time in my life I can walk up hill heal to toe and not only on my toes and the sharp pain down my legs is virtually gone. Now almost a year after surgery I went in to see Dr Oro for a check up and he said that the pain I am still having on occasion looks like it is mechanical and not neurological. I'm continuing with physical therapy and hope for further recovery. I'd like to thank everyone on the list for the helpful information I have received. I don't think I ever would have found the information I needed with out this list and I wouldn't of been able to find Dr Oro without it either.
