Hi,

My husband was recently offered a position in Houston. We have a 9 year old son

who is in 3rd grade who has higher functioning autism, speech delay, and sensory

processing disorder. We are currently living in Pennsylvania and are happy with

the services he currently receives (however that may be changing soon). We just

wanted to find out if we should consider this move, if it would be right for our

son. I am specifically looking for public school/private school recommendations.

He currently attends a public school, has a 1:1 aide, is in the regular ed class

for part of the day and pulled out for learning support for the subjects he has

problems with. I guess I should also mention that he does have a service dog who

currently atends school with him, I would need a district that would be willing

to allow her to attend school with him.

Also, in PA every child with a disability automatically qualifies for Medical

Assistance regardless of parents income (no waiting lists) this covers all

therapies, dr, dentists, etc. What does the state of Texas offer in regards to

insurance? We would not qualify for any insurance waivers because the company my

husband works for is self insured.

I know this is long, but any help would be greatly appreciated! I just need a

starting point : )

Thanks in advance,

Spring
