"The main thing is to keep the main thing the main thing" - Covey

It is easy to become distracted by the obligations and demands of our daily lives. A walk reminds us that there is enjoyment in the journey.

Share your day while you walk with your child. "Yesterday I planned to wash the car with you. We had to organize many things to do it. I can't remember all of them."

Wait. Wait for a long time.

Give him time to organize his thoughts and share his memory. Allow yourself the pleasure of the journey.

Dear Friend

We have various ways we use to organize our work -- different systems to help us remember when to do things. No matter the system, we are aware that decisions we make come from our minds-that we are not mere pawns to impulsive thoughts and actions. My own organizational model has been influenced by Covey. We dedicate our newsletter this week to his memory and we and we mourn his passing.

Sink or Swim: Typically We Begin by Keeping Our Heads Above Water

by Dr le Sheely

Ellen was compliant. She felt comfortable having others tell her what to do, partly because it was easier to use their brains rather than hers. Volition and planning were not part

of her repertoire.

Because Ellen was unaware that she could use her mind to plan and organize and that should could have an interior dialogue with herself, we broke the process down into its simplest equation. Using singing which Ellen loved, we explained that we were going to teach her how to sing to herself inside her head.

RDI Two-Day Conference: Should I Go?

by Palmiotto

Many of you have likely heard about the upcoming RDI conference in San Diego on September 29 and 30th, but perhaps you haven't considered how this

RDI Consultant, Palmiotto

conference may be beneficial for you and your family.

For parents that are just starting out or contemplating RDI

One of the primary goals of RDI is to understand the principles that are at the core of the model. We find it extremely beneficial for parents to really understand the "why bother" of any strategy that you use with your child. We want you to really "get" why its important to do X, or say Y to your child. When you deeply understand the foundation of your program, you will not only be more likely to make lasting change but you will understand how to change your course when you hit an obstacle. This conference can be the first step in helping you to think critically about yourself as a parent and your child's development.

Whether you are a person that cautiously weighs decisions or jumps in head first, give yourself the opportunity to start out right. Spending two days learning from Dr. Gutstein and other RDI consultants will be a cost and time efficient way to begin. During this two-day conference, you will start to...
