Guest guest
Hi all. I owe you guys an update. All of the GI testing came back within tolerable limits. So, no GI surgery. Also, we have to go back to the drawing board. Dr.Pacheco was so certain that the GERD was causing the flare ups. However, now she has had to completely rethink her drink. She spent a long time with me today going over step by step my symptoms and how these “events†start. After talking a while she thinks the secondary condition may be something called “bronchomalacia†which is when the airways of the lungs narrow or collapse while exhaling because of softening of the airway walls. This is caused by the degeneration of the elastic and connective tissue of the bronchi and trachea. This would be the primary cause of my hospitalizations - not the asthma. Now I get to have a whole new set of tests run. LOL.. Next week we are doing a CT and they are going to call me to schedule a bronchoscope. The bronchoscope is the definitive test for this. Dr.Pacheco may be onto something here as what she described is very very close to what happens when I go into the hospital. According to her it makes sense of all of my discombobbled symptoms. I don’t know exactly when the procedure is going to take place. I’ll keep you all updated. Also, what this means for coming home I don't know. I asked about making plans to go home around the end of March, and she hemmed and hawed. I have an appointment to see her again in 2 weeks. She is obviously expecting to have the testing completed before then. It is hurry up and wait time again.
