Guest guest
My daughter was also born with a heart defect and I fought the Idea of a tube at first. Her doctor finally conviced me to do it. rapidly began to put on weight and was more aware of us and her surrondings because she wasn't so tired from trying to eat. I won't lie and say we had no problems with it we did. the tube came out before the mickey button was placed and I had to incert a cathater tube for the thirty minute drive to the hospital so they could place a micky button sooner than they would have. I had to replace her tube myself which wasn't hard but a bit scary the first time. skin can grow up aroungd the button and has to be taken off by applying a silver nitrate or the site becomes red and sore. This never bothered unless I waited to long and it got red and sore before I applied the stuff. there will be a scar after it is removed which for lauren was six months after her heart repair. The scar looks like a second belly button. had a hard time learning to take a bottle again after surgery but there are things to do to help with that. I would definatly place a tube again it made s life so much easier while we were waiting for surgery. If YOu like you can give your friend my Email Or you could email me and I would be happy to anwser any questions she has. If you like you can email me and I will give you my Phone number so she could call. Jo Ann > > I know everyone is a big fan of breast feeding. I was 44 when I had my daughter (mds) and my milk never came in. She went straight to formula and has done great. I think it also helped me in knowing exactly how much she was getting. She was small and they had me wake her up ever two hours to feed her. At first it was one ounce and the two and before long she was taking 4 ounces at each feeding. She steadily gained weight and now is 14 months old and weighs almost 22 pounds. > > Sue > > > > > Need help > > > I have a friend that was actually my sons teaching therapist until she had her son. He is DS and they are really struggling with feedings. He does have a heart defect and as a result struggles with feedings. She asked for advice and told it was ok to pass her question to you guys. So this is what she wrote to us: > > > The little guy just gets so tired when its time to eat that he is not getting in enough calories even with the supplements we are adding to the breast milk. He has gained only an ounce since we brought him home almost three weeks ago. The dietician we saw at Swedish last week changed his supplement recipe yet again. The cardiologist put him on heart medication that is supposed to help his heart to beat more efficiently so that its using less energy in hopes that the energy would be used to eat and gain weight. These two changes just started Friday afternoon/Saturday morning. So when we went into the docs office for our weekly weigh in I expected to hear that they would give him another week to adjust to the new recipe and heart medication before making any decisions about putting in an NG tube. Not so. The doc is giving Lincoln until Friday to either gain weight or increase his intake to meet the minimum calorie amount. > > I am so torn. I hate the idea of a tube. I really don¢t want to do this unless it is absolutely necessary. But I also want my son to grow. He needs to grow as healthy and strong as possible in the next few months before his surgery. > > > Thank you for any help, and just so you are aware I will be forwarding any advice I get on to her. > > Thank you so much! > Angie > _________________________________________________________________ > Connect and share in new ways with Windows Live. > http://www.windowslive.com/share.html? ocid=TXT_TAGHM_Wave2_sharelife_012008 > >
Guest guest
Kay, It sounds like you need to see your doctor or something. God love you, I'm having trouble with this heat so I can feel for you. I go out in the heated air for very long and it's like breathing through a straw. Today it's around 90 with humidity down some but it's just hot air and not much breeze. Oh well, trying to manage. Oh and my hubby's car ac doesn't work so it's hard to go in it. Take care and let us know how you're doing. To: asthma Sent: Sat, July 24, 2010 7:50:14 AMSubject: need help I am having a hard time, every morning I wake up I gasping for air. Guest guest
Don't you have someone to go and bring you your meds, hun? or perhaps a pharmacy who can deliver the meds at your home for free?? or consider maybe calling the ER or perhaps 911? DON'T LET GO!!!DON'T LET GO!! Life is a wonderful gift and we have to fight for it!... with nails and teeth if that's needed!. Kay, It sounds like you need to see your doctor or something. Guest guest
Call the pharmacy and see if they have a suggestion. So many asthma meds now have to be signed for by the patient that I don't know if a friend or relative could pick up for you. In the " good old days, " people who were too ill and alone to get their meds could have them delivered by the pharmacy --and if the pharmacy didn't deliver, people used to call for a taxi and the taxi would deliver them (of course, you'd have to be well enough to pay for them). Being an asthmatic and alone is scary. But don't let it get you down. Remember: asthma will sap your strength and deprive you of sleep--and that's what wears you down. --marty On Saturday, July 24, 2010, at 12:52 PM, Ishia Alma Ruiz wrote: > > Don't you have someone to go and bring you your meds, hun? or > perhaps a pharmacy who can deliver the meds at your home for free?? or > consider maybe calling the ER or perhaps 911? Guest guest
One of the symptoms of asthma is heartburn or other stomach problem See the article at http://www.webmd.com/news/20000726/stomachs-role-asthma Or go our website and do a search for stomach You could be having stomach prolems which can have the same symptoms as an asthma attack. Sometimes I think I am having an asthma attack and I use my inhaler but it does not work. But if I take an antacid I burp a lot and it gets rid of the problem. Or you may have sleep apnea which can wake you up and make you think you are having an asthma attack. Guest guest
I've always been able to go pick up my Albuterol. And I sign a book at the pharmacy. But there's no place to sign for the meds on the doctor's written prescription. I'm intending on having my refills shipped to me (I changed pharmacies, but it's a 70-mile round trip drive to go get them)--so I wonder how they handle the patient's signature. Maybe I won't be permitted to get them shipped to me. But I intend to find out. This has been an enlightening group of posts. Thanks everybody. --marty On Saturday, July 24, 2010, at 02:38 PM, A Hill wrote: > Over here, pharmacies will deliver, though usually to old people who > cna't get to the pharmacy and who have absolutely no-one to go for > them (so, for example, they wouldn't deliver for my nanna, as she has > my parents and sister, my uncle (her other son) and his wife, and my > cousin and her hubby and kids, one of whom is 18 in less than 2 weeks, > so always someone around to do it for her if she couldn't get out) > > As long as the slip has been signed by you, they will allow anyone to > collect it - at uni once, the pharmacy had had to order in my > inhalers, and I knew I'd not be home from work in time to go get them, > so my flatmate took the prescription that I'd signed and got them for > me > > Jenn > > Tha can tek t'lass outta Yorkshire...! > > Don't brand me, don't classify me, don't tell me what to wear. Guest guest
I do understand. Not being able to breathe is scary. I had a mild scare yesterday at school. I was walking to class from my car in the warm air. I was running late and was walking pretty fast. By the time I got to class I was a bit winded. Then I got cologne. I had to go back out of the classroom and deal with it. When I can't breathe well and start coughing like that I get a bit of anxiety on top of it which sometimes makes the asthma worse. Try to keep as calm as possible even when you feel like totally freaking out.To: "asthma " <asthma >Sent: Sat, July 24, 2010 5:28:26 PMSubject: Re: need help My mom and sister are here now. Guest guest
I've been thinking about Kay's post because it really struck home with me. I live by myself and my one near relative works in another state and is out of state on weekends, so if I have to get somewhere it's up to me, no matter what I feel like. I have a couple of times asked a neighbor to pick up prescriptions at the pharmacy when I was sick (I call the pharmacy in advance to okay this. Maybe this only works because I knew the pharmacist, who has now left, alas, well so she recognizes my voice, I dunno.) But the neighbor is often away also. One thing I do is keep way stocked up on everything. Not only food, Kleenex, regular prescriptions, OTC stuff, but also my pulmonologist has okayed my keeping filled prescriptions at home of stuff I might need like Augmentin, just in case he is out of town or its Christmas Eve or something when I get sick. Of course, I know some will expire and be wasted. There is a pharmacy that delivers, but only one day a week. I think I have to ask my regular pharmacy what people do in a case like this, maybe they have some provision. How one gets to the doctor when one is contagious and too sick to drive, other than calling 911, I don't know. I can't see asking someone to drive me when I'm contagious. Guest guest
After my lungs got over the initial "shock" of the cologne and got used to it, I was fine. This heat is getting to me though. It's 95 where I am in NE Tennessee. I'm coping ok as long as I stay where it's cool, but going outside in that heated air is rough. When church dismissed earlier, I got to the door and turned around. I said do I have to go out there? Our pastor laughed. He's the best. We'll hang on together.Hugs,From: "hottrinbago72_99@..." Not being able to breathe is scary. Guest guest
It's not as hot here, but it's been really humid for over a week now. They often say that we get a diluted form of any extreme weather to hit the east coast of America about 3 weeks later! But this seems to be the same time. Humidity isn't uncommon here with us being an island, but it's rare for it to stay this long, at this level. It's now nearly 8pm here, and still nearly 20 degrees, a temperature that we don't reach that much usually.I have been feeling a bit more tight chested than usual, though not too bad. It's mild hayfever added in that's making it worse. I want to go sailing again - my chest felt great then! (though the boat I was on is currently docked in Central London, so it wouldn't make a difference!)JennTha can tek t'lass outta Yorkshire...! Don't brand me, don't classify me, don't tell me what to wear. I'll be who I want to be, and I'm proud to be me. Kay, It sounds like you need to see your doctor or something. Guest guest
kay you can get converter boxes that hook up to the tv so you can get digital channels. they cost about 40-60.00 and I think you can still get them at most of the big box stores. The only reason we got cable here was b/c we could get 3 channels downstairs and 3 channels upstairs and not the same 3. A lot of stuff is available in the web. I dumped my tv a couple of years ago, and I'm happy saving money every month. There are only 2-3 things I want to watch - 30 Rock, House, etc., and they're all on the web, usually on hulu.com.
Guest guest
we have cable internet, so it wouldnt save us any money either way. we dont use a landline and dial up wouldnt really support watching tv online anyway from what my friends who have no cable/dsl internet available in their area yet say. Plus, I like to watch the local news b/c the news websites here dont update their sites very well. On weekends, they dont update them with new news hardly at all... Guest guest
I used to pick up for residents of the assisted living I ran and relatives all the time. They used my drivers license instead of the person's that is all. Re: need help Call the pharmacy and see if they have a suggestion. So many asthma meds now have to be signed for by the patient that I don't know if a friend or relative could pick up for you. In the "good old days," people who were too ill and alone to get their meds could have them delivered by the pharmacy --and if the pharmacy didn't deliver, people used to call for a taxi and the taxi would deliver them (of course, you'd have to be well enough to pay for them). Being an asthmatic and alone is scary. But don't let it get you down. Remember: asthma will sap your strength and deprive you of sleep--and that's what wears you down. --marty
Guest guest
Thanks, . I only raised the point because it seems the pharmas and/or new laws have us signing for so many 'scripts, now. I never used to sign for my Albuterol and I've been on it for 24 yrs. Not only that, but I used to be able to pick up all my refills at one time. That saved me time and gasoline and gave me some security in case one of them didn't work properly or was accidentally ruined. Now I can't get a refill until 30 days have elapsed since I got my last one. That causes me stress not to have another rescue inhaler if I need it. --marty > > I used to pick up for residents of the assisted living I ran and > relatives all the time. I try to refill them at 25 days for awhile, so I can wind up with one or two as backup. I recently shelled out of my own pocket for a refill early to have a backup. Guest guest
I think this is a pretty standard practice of insurance companies. Mine has always stated they will not honor a refill request until the date on which you would have used up 75% of the present supply. That's true whether you get a 30-day or a 90-day supply at a time. If you have some kind of mishap, dropping your med in a sinkful of water or leaving it behind when you vacate your hotel or whatever, you can buy a replacement at your own expense and then negotiate with customer service to see whether they will reimburse you for the replacement. I once had a half full Symbicort inhaler fly right out of my hand and into the toilet while I was shaking it prior to use. Argggh! Slats > > > > Thanks, .
