>>have a question - could someone explain " brittle diabetic " to me please.

Rebekah, a brittle diabetic is one whose bs goes up and down very easily

and quickly - hard and usually impossible to stabilize it. THat's the

simplest way to explain it without going into volumes of examples. Does

that help you?

Insulin dependent diabetics are the ones that get brittle. When a

noninsulin dependent diabetic starts to bounce around, they get put on

insulin. In a lot of ocases (but not all), the " brittle " is a result of

the aging process. It's more work to maintain one's health as we get older

- more work to do so! And diabetes is no exception. Also, a young person

who doesn't take good care of their health and thinks they are " getting by

with it " usually sees the side effects start to bloom (including getting

brittle) as they get older. Hope this isn't confusing! I know what I

meant, but don't know if I said it correctly!!!

I WILL LOOK UP BRITTLE DIABETES IN ONE OF MY MANY

BOOKS. I KNOW I HAVE SEEN THE DEFINITION AT LEAST

ONCE OR MORE. JUST GIVE ME A DAY OR TWO. I WILL

BE IN ALL DAY WEDNESDAY AS FAR AS I KNOW.

Well, it took a while, but I'm glad some of the others finally spoke up. I

seem to remember a few months ago this very subject came up - related to the

CAPS - and at that time, everyone on the list rallied around the person who

was posting with CAPS - the majority of the list was in complete sympathy -

what happened!?

Dawn, if you are still with us, I too am sorry for all the anguish you have

been put through - I for one do not have a nice computer and with my

illnesses may never be able to afford a better one - but at least I have one!

And some Email systems or message lists do not allow fancy large print - it

is converted back automatically - like on my cancer list. You just have to

learn to swing with the punches and be a little more tolerant - someday you

may need the same courtesy given to you.

The Golden Rule is: Do Unto Others What You Would Have Them Do Unto You.

I would like to think that if I were to ask a question or give a response,

that the content of that would be more important than the vehicle that got it

there!

No, it sure wasn't!! I thought I was going out of my mind for a while there -

nothing worked. I had myself in such a tizzy - my mind has a real tendency

to work overtime sometimes!! <G>

And thanks, Winky, I appreciate the kind words. But, honestly, I am just

being me - no frills -

Everyone deserves a kind word - makes the day go easier and your troubles

lighter.

pretty much as I felt, I thought. Wasn't brittle at all and was very stable.

Then POOF! It all caught up with me and now, after being diabetic for 46

years, am in a constant battle for consistency. It has gotten much esier

with Humulog, but still a battle. You, , are a lesson in courage! I

really admire you - with all you go through, you always have a kind word for

others and a sense of humor. My hat is off to you! >>

Speaking of kind words, I wasn't going to get involved in the flame war,

but I must say something. Someone said this list is for helping others and

gleening information for ourselves and the generic Netiquette Rules just

don't fit here, in some cases. What happened to kindness and

understanding? Look in the mirror, folks, and start with yourselves when

trying to change the world. Let's get back to the list the way it was and

stop this childishness. If you are annoyed by caps, there's always that

,

There program called Zoom which will enlarge the type on your computer so it

is readable. This would be for all typing. It is not dependent on the

program. One of my students uses it quite satisfactorily for all his

written work. Great program. We are in the process of getting a second

copy to use with another visually impaired child. Both also have CP.

And btw Dawn is not posting in caps on another list I am on. Interesting.
