Guest guest
Congratulations Meenie! Helps me resolve not to snack after my evening meal. Bet I can get my before bed bg down too if I try harder. - Pat P.S. liked your site. Guest guest
Thanks Pat I'm particularly pleased because we went out to dinner last night! I had a lb of steamed shrimp and a dinner salad (no potato, no croutons!). mmmm But even though I have been eating low carb for the last 3 weeks, and all my other bg's were down in a good range, I couldn't get that fasting one in the am down below 140. I'm a happy girl Meenie Re: dawns effects > > >Congratulations Meenie! Guest guest
Speaking of dawn effects... any idea exactly when this might kick in? When I test myself before my shower I seem to be in the 100 - 110 range, and when I test myself after my shower I'm in the 130's. I don't eat or anything else that would vary it, and it could just be a coincidence because my bg has been all over the place lately, but I'm still wondering if the dawn effect might kick in when I'm in the shower (?) Guest guest
The dawn effect begins before you wake up. Depending on your sleep cycle, about an hour or so before you awaken, your body begins to prepare for the day. It looks around to see what you need to function. If your blood glucose has been running high, your body begins to see that as normal for you. If you are doing things to get it lower, in the morning before you wake up, your body sees that your bg's are much lower than normal and thinks it is a problem so it instructs your liver to dump glucose into your system! This is what is knows as the Dawn Effect - it has some other names also and it can be quite hard to overcome. Blood pressure also tends to go up at this same time. Guest guest
I have been doing the treadmill first thing in the morning, then shower, then test, and my BG's have been in the 140's does anyone know if exercise makes them go higher for awhile afterwards? I can't figure out what's going on. I would appreciate any input. Thanks, Beth Re: dawns effects > > >> >> >>That sounds like what is going on. Guest guest
I have heard that exercise can make bg's go higher at first, but that they then lower. I don't know why this is, it doesn't seem to affect me that way but I've heard others say it happens. I guess you need to experiment and test at different times after your exercise... ? Hopefully someone on the list will know more about it. Meenie Re: dawns effects >> >> >>> >>> >>>That sounds like what is going on.
