Hi in Boston,

Welcome to the sleepy heads. Yes, this has been clearly one of my symptoms.

For a while, I thought my drowsiness was a result of the anti-depressants,

anti-inflams, and cough meds I was taking. But since being finally diagnosed w/

Chiari 1, I stopped taking all the meds and am still drowsy. I seem to have

good mornings but by mid afternoon I am going down hill, become sluggish, and if

I get the chance I can nap instantly. If, as on week-ends, I get a chance for

one or two naps a day, I can keep my strength and energy levels much higher and

feel fewer neck aches or head aches.

Here is another symptom that I am curious about that I call chronic yawning. I

yawn all day long, sometimes four or five in a row. Anybody with that condition

out there? , have you noticed the yawning at all?

Hi Northwoods Willis, ;-)

Wouldn't you know that now that I've sent this I have yet to feel the

fatigue this afternoon? Could have something to do with the 10 hours

of sleep I got last night...

Anyway, thanks for your response on the fatigue. About the yawning

issue: yes, at times I feel like I can't stop yawning. It usually happens

with the extreme tiredness. I will just keep yawning, over and over

again, and I can't seem to help it. Maybe we're onto something here.

RE: the headaches, etc.

It's funny, when I don't get enough sleep (anything under 7 hours, it

seems) I get achy all day, mostly in my neck and arms and shoulders.

My head is sometimes a problem on those days. But then, if I get a

lot of sleep (like last night, when I got about 10 hours) I tend to

wake up not achy in my neck or arms or shoulders, but headachy.

It's weird. It's like there's no middle ground. To satisfy one

condition I have to aggravate another. Hmmmph.

Any other sleepyheads out there?

Hi All, I thought I would put my input into this for a change. Fatigue

seems to be a problem with me too. At times its very frustrating. Lately at

work by noon I can barely keep my eyes open.. My body feels achy and just

wants to do nothing. I visualize coming home and sleeping. I have not been

able to put the hours in that I used to. I can sympathize with anyone who

has the same problem. It has to be chiari related.

Hi all,

Yup, I'm this way too at times. All of the sudden I'll feel exausted and

I'll lay down and fall asleep right away. Sometimes for hours. And I am

getting around 9hrs of sleep at night as it is. I am not on any meds.

either, so there is nothing to contribute this to except chiari, or the

theroy that I am getting too much sleep. But I can't function, so I have to

sleep. It's like all my energy is zapped out of me, in an instant.

And I do yawn alot too, but usually this happens more when I sleep less.

And to Sam, It wasn't but a month ago that I went through just what you said.

I was getting about 4hrs a night. Now I can't get enough. Weird huh?

Maybe I'm still adjusting to the lack of sleep for so long. Oh well, such is

the chiari lifestyle. Hope you get some rest soon.

Take care all,

Melinda

One of my worst symptoms is fatigue. Before I stopped working in Nov. 98, I would come home from school( I am a teacher) and go to bed at 4:00 in the afternoon, sleep till dinner time and go back to bed. I had to do this to be able to get up and go again the next morning.

If you stop and think about the theory that fibromyalgia/chrinic fatigue are caused by chiari 1, then it all makes sense. I believe that this theory will be proved eventually. In the meantime all we can do is get lots of rest.

If I do anything out of the ordinary I pay for it the next couple of days with unrelenting, disabling fatigue.

Sam,

Same here, I go on for days like the Energizer Bunny. I'm lucky if I get a

solid 2 hours sleep a night. Between the pain and the mind working overtime I

feel very fatigue but can't sleep. Like they say life must go so I have

learned to except the lack of sleep and to live around it.
