NYC DANCE THERAPY WEEKENDWORKSHOPDANCE IMPROVISATION AND EXPERIENTIAL FOCUSINGDr. Joan Lavender, Psy.D andDr. Miriam Roskin Berger, BC-DMT, LCAT EugeneGendlin's Experiential Focusing is a bodily-centered therapy process whichgives you access to a deep level of self-knowledge. Moments ofcontact with this holistic realm (the experiential dimension) can guide andeven transform the way you live your life. While most approaches totherapy agree that it is helpful to be more "in touch" with yourself,Focusing shows you how to do this. This workshop will explore the relationship betweenthe experiential dimension and the world of movement and dance improvisation– the horizon of awareness. Participants will learn thecrucial distinction between bodily felt sensing and emotion and the “rawpoetry†that comes from fresh contact with the felt sense. Wewill explore concepts such as attunement, mutual regulation, improvisation andimplicit communication through movement and focusing explorations.Focusing is ahighly-regarded and well-researched process that has been shown to correlatewith positive life change, enhanced self-esteem, and the experience ofintegration and wholeness. These skills enrich any form of creative processincluding psychotherapy. Eligible for ADTA CEs.
